Help me to understand the basics of the Extra Magic Hours program.

Apparently, you need to be a guest at a Disney Resort - have that. Do you also have to purchase an "Extra Magic Hours" upgrade with your theme park ticket, or are the extra hours already included in your theme park ticket?

There is mention that wrist bands are distributed no earlier than two hours before regular park closing and I was wondering if I needed to purchase an "upgrade" for my ticket.

Thanks.

No upgrade needed. It's a perk for staying at a WDW hotel.

If you do not have park hopper tickets you will not be able to go to one park during the day and a different park for EMH. If you do have hoppers, no problem.

Here's an FAQ:

No upgrade necessary, it is included with your stay at a Disney resort. You will need to show your Key to the World (resort key card) to get in to Morning EMH or pick up wristbands for Evening EMH at one of the designated locations. Be sure to read threads on whether or not EMH will be beneficial for your particular dates and parks. :wizard:

You don't need to upgrade anything. If you are staying at the Disney hotels you can be there for EMH. There are wristband lines for evening EMH at different places around the park starting about 2 hours before closing. They just scan your card before they put the band on you.

We did Epcot early morning EMH on Monday and it was great. We walked on to Soarin', Mission:Space, Test Track twice, and Ellen's Energy Adventure shortly after 9:00 a.m. We did MK EMH on Wednesday night and we almost left in the beginning because it was such a madhouse. The lines for the wristbands were long, the park seemed mobbed. But after about 30 minutes, it really cleared out. From 9:30 to 11:30, we did Space Mountain twice, Buzz twice, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain and the haunted mansion. By about 10:45/11:00 the park was pretty empty.

We took advantage of some Extra Magic(hours) :flower: while our younger two stayed in the room with their Granny....we took our 5yr old to MK. You have get your bracelet before the park closes. There are usually several stations you can get these at(don't make the mistake of standing at the entrance of MK...it was an hour long when we were there!) just ask a CM where you can get them. THere is no extra charge for them...just show your KTW card. Those two nights where we took our DD out were the highlight of our trip in her eyes...and we did lots of magical things! It took a bit for the park to empty out...after the fireworks... and once CMs were checking for bracelets on rides. There was hardly any wait to see the characters there.
