Extra Magic Hours

Probably a dumb question but I'm confused....WDW web site states "Each day one of the Disney Theme Parks opens an hour early or stays open up to three hours after regular Park closing"....

Is it always 3 hrs after Park closing or does the "up to" mean it's at Disney's disgretion and could be only 1 hour or 2 hours late?

We were told the "up to" means "UP TO". I think it just covers them in case for what ever reason they don't keep a park open for that long.

We have never been at one that was less than the three hours. I would be curious to hear if anyone encountered a closing time before the three hours. Maybe you'll get some response on this thread.

Every time I've ever done it it's been 3 hours. If a park is already staying open late i suppose it would be less on extra magic hours. I can't see MK staying open later than 1:00 a.m..

In the summer it is very common for MK (which "normally" closes at 12 midnight) to stay open until 3am.

Evening EMH's are "always" 3 hours long.

The "up to" is simply "lawyer-speak" for when weather (can you say, "hurricane"?) or other unforseen events might cause an unexpected earlier closing time for the EMH.

We've always been in winter (Feb) so have never experienced late nights at the parks.......looking fwd to our stay in August!

It does, but only the rides and shows. The safari and the walking tours are closed - i.e. no animals to see.

When we went in Jan., AK stayed open until 8pm, and they basically have extra showings of the shows, and the rides remain open.

Its not just that there are no animals to see... there are no LIGHTS in those areas, even if the animals "stayed up late" for you.

During Easter the MK closes at 12:00. If there's an EMH, then the MK is open until 3:00am.

When we went to EMH in Epcot, the whole park closed at 11. Technically Future World was open 4 extra hours (usually closes at 7) and World Showcase was open 2 extra hours (usually closes at 9), so I guess they just split the difference. Kind of confusing, but it averages out to 3 extra hours.
