Extra Magic Hours vs. Magic Morning

I've searched the threads and can't quite find the answer to this. I understand the difference between EMH and MM. I'm thinking about booking our first stay at a Disneyland hotel... our second time to DL. I was looking at staying 3 nights but just getting 2-day tickets. You still get EMH with a 2-day ticket right?

It's sort of confusing looking at the prices in the cart, because the 3-day ticket advertises 1 Magic Morning with it. However, if you're staying on property and have tickets to the parks, you do get Extra Magic Hours no matter if you bought one day tickets or longer, right??

Sorry if this sounds confusing. I'm probably overthinking it. :confused3

All Disney property hotel guests get EMH for their entire stay (including check in and check out Day). There is no minimum number of ticket days.

Magic Morning is the one that is only attached to 3+ day tickets.

Yes, as long as you are staying on property, you get EMH attached to your tickets. If you have a 2-day ticket, you’ll get it for the 2 days you use those tickets. (Or however many days you have tix for, AND you’re staying on property.) You will have to show your room key along with your ticket to get in to the park, (for the early hour) and to get past the roped areas that are holding the rope-drop folks back from the areas that EMH folks have access to. It’s very worth it if you’re an early bird, and like to have some nice, uncrowded time in the parks. The EMH park switches from DL and DCA every other day...

As Skyegirl1999 sID "All Disney property hotel guests get EMH for their entire stay."

EMH/MM days at Disneyland are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
EMH days at DCA are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

For hotel guest to take advantage of EMH, each person is required to show both their room key card and park ticket for entry.

Have fun!!

Which has never been enforced I might add. Only one person from a party has ever been required to show it, but then again, all our last names match.

Thanks for all of the quick answers everyone! It's what I figured but wanted to make sure we didn't get left out somehow. Now I'm debating do we fork over the cash to stay at Disney property or just stay at a good neighbor hotel and miss out on the EMH. Is it going to be that big of a deal on a weekday in September?

I think it all depends on how you typically like to do things. Do you have a hard time getting up early? Do you want to maximize your park time? The times aren’t too bad, (it’s 8am next week) but to make the most of the time, you should still get to the gate earlier (like 30-40 min) than opening for EMH. If you’re staying off property, maybe go ahead and do the 3 day ticket and take advantage of the one MM you would get at DL, if you want to experience it. Me personally, I tend to have a harder time in the mornings getting going and ready in time, lol... I’ll be at the GCH all next week, but I doubt I’ll even use the early hours every day of our stay. There are benefits to on/off property, proximity is key (IMO) if you like to take mid-day breaks... you’ll have fun no matter where you stay, as it’s the park time that counts most, for most people ;)

Thanks TinkerTay! I'm considering staying off property and getting the 3-day ticket for MM. We have a 4 year old and 2 year old, so early mornings don't always go as planned. I think we could do 8 am fairly easily... but I'd really prefer the early entry to DL because we spent quite a bit of time at CA last time we were there.

The price difference between is what's bothering me. If we stay at DLH for 3 nights and get 2 day tickets... it's about $400 more than an off property hotel I'm looking at with 3-day tickets. We're not 100% going next week, but I'm weighing all of the options.

Are EMH and MM people in the same lines to get into the parks? Or are there separate lines for both?

The way to do the parks is to KILL IT at EMH, then when things get busy, take a break at the hotel. That is the best strategy hands down.
That is what we do all the time. Get there for EMH and back at the hotel by 1 or 2 pm to the pool or shop DtD, or just relax somewhere. Then we head back to parks with more energy.

We actually had to show all our room keys last time we where there. I had everyone's with me so i would just pull them out to show we had four. I do not think they really checked all the names just made sure we had them.

Well, there isn't MM at DCA at all. It's only EMH. And yes, EMH and MM get in together.

Note that hotel guests get EMH on both check in day and check out day. If you're staying on-site for just one night, you get EMH for both of the days. Which is kind of nice! (or would be, if we were the kind of people who spend that much extra money to stay on site...)

Yep... I can't believe we used to do it any other way.

Oh, if it was that much less to have an entire extra day at the parks, (and still have a MM) I would definitely do that... Then you can be a little more leisurely with your time, instead of feeling more rushed with just 2 days of park time :) I’ll be there next week and I’m hoping it’s a little quieter during the week, as I know this weekend will be crazy!

I’d stay off site and get an extra day! Hands down. Last March we stayed off site, 5 day tickets. Our kids were 3.5 & 2.5. We never made it to the Park in time for mm. We left the hotel around 9 walking I think. We only stayed until we ate early lunch. 10-1 probably. Then we took nap and pool time. Free dinner at hotel at 5 and returned to the park after for about an hour-1.5 of park time.

We got all the rides done at least once in 4 days! Day 5 we Rode one ride, had lunch and total melt down. (Kids have SPD among other things). We left. My point in all this...you’ll get everything done in 3 days but I think you’ll be rushed in 2. Especially in dl. The mm/emh doesn’t help that much in that park ime.

Free dinner at the hotel?! Where did you stay? It’s hard making the best use of your time with toddlers. Smaller chunks make it more manageable.

Same here.
