When DH and I stayed at my parents' time share for our honeymoon in Scotland we were surprised at check out when we had a $200 bill for things like electricity, etc. We want to rent points for our trip in Nov but are worried about the same thing happening. Does Disney charge extras at check out for DVCs?

The only charges that would appear at check-out would be charges made to your room key.

As a DVC member, I was elated at checkout during our first trip "Home". There was no checkout! :cool1: A perk of DVC membership is having paid for your trip up front. There were no surprises.

yea disney does not charge for extras.

that I think is fairly common in Europe - even worst in Mexico - go visit www.tug2.net before you exchange to any other places than DVC.

Actually, guests exchanging into DVC must pay the $95 "resort services fee". Guests renting units from a Member do not pay this fee.

On OP's question...there isn't even any taxes if you are staying on points. If you don't charge anything to your room card, then your bill at the end of the stay is $0.00

In 12 years of membership, I can't think of even one time where there was a charge of any kind that we had to address at check out. We use express check out, and since we never charge anything to the room, it's a real breeze!

We got charged when we asked for extra coffee for the in the room coffee maker. You also get charged if you want extra towels or extra cleaning (more than the 1 once every 4th day of your stay.)

We have never been charged anything extra during our stays. If you do stay at a resort that has valet car service, like BWV, make sure they have your DVC number. Just show your card once to the valet person at the booth, they will write down your member number and they will not charge you for your entire stay. We really loved this perk, but have heard that sometimes people get charged for valet by mistake. :cool2:

that must have been a VERY unpleasant surprise!!:guilty:
i never knew that some places charge additional ~ thank you, & PPs, for bringing this up as we do plan on trading out within the next few years.

we've never had charges at checkout other than a few small items bought with our room card (well.....actually last time our bill was over $400 for room charges. almost freaked, until i realized it wasn't our bill!! bet the ppl in the other room were thrilled when they recived a room charge bill of less than $5 :) ).

Ha! Two different times I was charged for valet parking when I never even used valet. Definite billing errors that were taken care of without any problems.

Ohhhh I c you used up some of our fancy electricity now did ya...thats gonna cost you a hagus....That is one I have NEVER EVER heard, what year was the castle built?? And what do you mean renters DONT get internet, I thought it was a possibility.....but not a given....

Thank you everyone! This makes DH much more interested in renting points.

It was a very unpleasant surprise. We had just gotten married and closed on our house (which involved a lot of extra, unexpected remodeling expenses due to crumbling plaster) and were broke. We were not happy to say the least. It actually wasn't a castle, it was a fairly new set of condos built overlooking a loch. I've stayed with my parents several times in the US and in the Caribbean and have never experienced this.

Thanks for the heads up about the towels, internet, parking and cleaning! We just got our refund today, I can finally start planning! :cool1: :dance3:

To clarify, renters DO NOT get the free internet either.

According to DVC Management, anyone staying on points at a DVC resort gets hard wired internet for free.

Have you read any reports to the contrary?

That's what I thought - we won't be able to use our points for a year in the coming years and we wanted to send my best friend, hubby and the baby they tried for 8 years to arrive, to WDW for a couple of weeks.....I'd hope that they'd get things like the internet access - we're not going to rent the points to them but give them to them as a gift (they spend over £10,000 on IVF - it's the least I can do for the person who has always been there for me in my life)

Curious....

Wow - this is the first I am reading this. We are exchanged and are going to Mexico this July. What kind of fees should I expect? Better to know up front and be prepared. I do belong to TUG - where can I find this on their site. I would like some more information on this.

Our first time exchanging or staying in a timeshare besides DVC - anything else I should be aware of besides them trying to get us to go to a presentation?

TIA.

(sorry don't want to hijack this thread - but I could see us arguing or being suspicious of them scamming us if we see these crazy charges, electricity?).
