We are looking at renting a minivan for a trip in January with our friends. We have four adults and three kids. Three of the four adults want to be able to drive the van. Is there anywhere we could register all three drivers at no extra cost?

That's not likely. Some rental companies allow the spouse of the main driver to be added free. If you are a Costo member, you can get an additional driver for free with Alamo. I don't know of any car companies that allow more than one free additional driver, unless all of the people work for the same company. You may have to pay for drivers 3 & 4, and that can get a bit pricey.

Good luck!

That has been our experience. Most will allow the spouse of the primary driver for free. Otherwise there is usually an extra charge for any other drivers. And we have also had to provide major credit cards for each driver, if they are not husband and wife.

As others have said, usually you can only add one extra driver for free. The Costco rates provide a free additional driver for free at all car rental companies, not just Alamo.

With seven people, why not consider renting two cars instead of one van. You may find this is also cheaper than a mini van rental. Then you can have one primary driver and one additional driver on each vehicle. This way you can have all four adults drive if necessary.
