Extra day via a separate reservation--can we avoid a room change?

Hi,

We're checking into CSR next Thursday. When we initially booked a MYW package with a spring discount, we couldn't get the last night of the trip (5/21). I kept checking, and today, I found 5/21 available at CSR as a room-only rate. So I called and of course, to add the one night they wanted to rebook the whole trip at the now-not-discounted MYW package prices. So I just booked the room-only as a separate one night reservation and the CM "noted" in the system that the reservations were linked.

Is there anything else I should be doing, either via MDE or at check-in, to try to ensure we don't have to switch rooms for the last night? Maybe avoid online check-in and do it at the front desk when we arrive? It's the same room category (standard) but I know it isn't guaranteed that we won't have to switch. Just want to increase our odds if possible.

TIA!

I would call and add this as your only request on your first reservation. Honestly, sometimes it works and other times you have to move - there's no guarantee.

Call and have them link the reservations (or make sure the CM who made the RO did indeed link them). In addition to having them linked, put in a request to keep the same room. When you check in for the package, tell the CM that you have a continuing reservation and would like to stay in the same room the last night. They will do everything they can to accommodate your request, but as the pp said, it's not guaranteed and there is the chance you will have to move.

We've done this a fair number of times and have been able to stay in the same room. Though I do realize it's always possible we'll have to move
It is to Disney's benefit to keep you in the same room if at all possible. Costs them less to clean a room for a repeat guest than for a new guest.
It does help for them to know in advance so call as PP have noted and mention it again at check in

Like mickeynut1 mentioned, make sure to link both reservations and when you check-in to mention it to the CM. I know it is not guaranteed, but we have did this 3 times and did not have to switch rooms, but you will have to go down the morning of checkout day from your 1st reservation and go through the motions of checking out and then back in.

Agree with the others, call and have the reservations linked and request to stay in the same room if possible. I did this last fall. We had a 3 night reservation at Pop and decided at like 12 days out to add another day. Rather than mess with the original reservation, I just did another single night reservation. The room type was the same, so called and made the requests and we were able to stay put. No guarantees, but I think calling ahead of time increases the likelihood you can stay.

Request ahead of time and mention it at checkin. And check back during the first part of your stay. I personally would be prepared to move, especially since it helps you be ready for departure, but give them lots of opportunities to know that you have that last day there, in hopes you won't have to move.

Thanks, everyone. I'll call back tomorrow to make sure that the two reservations are, in fact, linked, and then ask that a request to stay in the same room be added. I guess I'll skip on-line check in and make the stop at the front desk to reiterate the request when we arrive.

Here is what I would do. Other than linking the reservation, there is another possibility. What I would do is to call the reservations number and ask them. They will tell you that they can't get the day added to your existing reservation without changing the whole reservation to the current rate. Trust me when I say that the Reservations person can only see the same thing that you can online. You would then need to ask for Reservations Guest Services. Now I know that you would have probably been on hold for a while to get the person that you just talked to, but there will be an additional hold. The person in Guest Services should be able to add the day at the original rate. You would just need to be honest and tell them that you wanted the day originally and would like to add it. You should tell them of the other 1-day reservation and they may be able to cancel it without penalty when you add the day to the existing main reservation.

Guest Services is amazing. They are the ones that can grease the right wheels to make things happen. I've done it before and it worked just fine. I wanted a Sat-Sat (Thanksgiving Week) reservation when the last "Free Dining" came out a few weeks back. I was only able to get Sun-Sat when doing it online. When I called reservations, after a 75 min hold, they told me it wasn't available. I asked to speak to Guest Services and after an hour hold, the cast member said that she saw plenty of availability and added the day at the beginning for the correct rate on the Free Dining. I also helped do this for 2 other rooms for people that were traveling with us with no problem.

Hope this helps.

No need to skip online check in, but do stop by front desk and remind them you'd like to stay in same room. In addition the night before your next Res I'd stop by desk again and see if they have that room blocked off for you. The next morning you'll have to go thru the motions of checking out of old Res and check into new Res. At least you used to have to. Maybe that's changed now.

I've had a mixture of having to go back down and not having to go back down. The staff should let you know which they want you to do when you arrive
CR had me come back down
Poly did not have me come back down but I stopped by anyway as we were heading to the monorail
BWI did not have me come back down. Funny thing here, I was laying in bed in our room early that morning when I got a text that our room wasn't ready. Moments later I got a text with our room number (the room we were in, of course)

We did this in February at WL. We just asked the front desk if we could stay in the same room, they said it shouldn't be a problem. I then did have to go down and do a check in/check out. It all worked out great, but I was really impressed with the WL front desk in general during our stay. They were incredibly helpful on other issues we had as well.

Yep, like everything Disney. No consistency:)
