Extra charge now for embroidering mouse ears?

I thought I read on here that Disneyland is now charging extra to embroider names onto the mouse ears. Did I read right? If so, can anybody let me know what the charge is?

My daughter got the plain minnie mouse ears for $14 and the embroidery was $3 for basic and $5 for the fancy letters or special color thread. All depends on what hat you end up getting.

So this is slightly OT but do you buy your kids new ears every time you go? We have gotten them new ears each time (DD#1 has been twice and DD#2 has been once) but I thought that this time we should just bring their old ears, I mean they have only worn them for a few days each...

If my kids have ears, we reuse. My kids dress up with them at play with them at home so sometimes they get broken, in that case, we just buy a new pair next trip.

Yep, they now charge $3 for the standard gold lettering on standard ears. This seemingly small issue is the "straw that broke the camel's back" for my BFF.

She's a life-long Disney nut and a former Mgmt-level cast member and she's boycotting Disney for her family now over this. Sad, but true.
