Does anyone know if airport security will allow us to carry an external battery (juice pack) in our hand luggage?
My phone always runs out of charge ridiculously quickly and I want to know I can recharge it (and the kids' ipods) while on board.

Obviously we know our phones must be charged but didn't know whether these juice packs were affected by the new security measures.

Thanks!
Mandy

those "juice packs" are banned from checked luggage. Powerbanks and spare batteries MUST be placed in carry ons.

as long as your Li-Ion does not exceed the rating imposed by your airline, you're good to go.

I carry all my batteries in my carry-on. Took 2 power packs for mobile phones both ways with no problem.

We took 2 with us in hand luggage no problem.
Now with My Disney Experience, Wifi in parks plus being able to use our UK phones over there at no extra charge we used the external power almost every day.
We take all electrical items in hand luggage never had a problem but I have been moaned at my US security for carrying an excess amount for a vacation. He said "I hope your plane is not leaving soon as I am going to be a while checking all this" I started being a bit clever and said "no you have about 4 hours before we leave" but I realised he could get awkward so I shut up.:rotfl:
Last weekend was a struggle, only had 5kg pp with Thomas Cook. I usually have about 12kg. Had to spread it between 3 of us.

Iv always put all my electricals in my case???? Hair straighteners, chargers etc. wayne who is ur network provider to get free UK calls? I usually skype or whattsapp

I know 3 allow you to use your inclusive minutes, text and data from several countries with no extra charge. :) I think that's who I'll be moving to shortly.

This. My iPhone has really good battery life and easily gets me through a work day with calls, browsing and use of apps, draining less than 50% on an average day. I was using back up power daily at Disney, and twice a day if we did full days out without going back to the resort.

Yes its with Three.
We all have Three rolling monthly contracts for £10/month, gives us 100 mins (Matt's is 300 mins) 3000 texts & 1GB data.
I should really ring them and get new contracts, for £10 you now get something like 600 mins, unlimited texts & 1GB of data, although none of us use it for calls, we only text & use data.

You can also get prepaid cards like this on Amazon, just now its at £14 but it dropped to £8.50 recently with unlimited data for a month http://www.amazon.co.uk/Three-Adapt...imited/dp/B00ABJ0WA8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Karen & myself only used about 150MB each out of our 1GB, Matt who is constantly on his phone used around 850MB so 1GB is plenty for the average person.

More details on their site about the 16 countries you can use your phone as if you were at home. http://**********.co.uk/Discover/Phones/Feel_At_Home

Not sure why that site is blocked, I guess its a mistake, can't see why a US site would have issues with a UK mobile site.

they give you trouble about your electronics?
at domestic security?
i carry a lot of stuff and no one's ever said a word....

but they're so inconsistent...
on one trip, i flew out of detroit airport twice...
the first time, i was connecting on my way to orlando....(in other words, i'd flown in from overseas, gone through immigration etc, and then had to go through security again for my domestic flight to orlando)..

so the detroit TSA woman insisted that i take off my "jacket". But it wasn't a jacket.
It was a shirt that i had on with a flimsy tank top under it. The top shirt was not meant to be taken off (and the shirt underneath was definitely not to be seen on its own)..
i tried to explain, but there was no explaining.
so i gave in and took off the damn shirt and walked looking like s**t through the sensor. i mean geez. i should have been arrested for indecent exposure.

a few weeks later, i flew back through detroit. And again, had to go through security in Detroit.
I was wearing the same outer shirt, but this time i wore something a bit less revealing underneath, so that i could take the top shirt off at security (which i did on my own in orlando).

so at detroit security i started taking off the top shirt and the TSA woman - a different woman - said to me, "you don't have to take that off, it's just a shirt, not a jacket".
So i said, "but they made me take it off here two weeks ago".
to which the TSA woman responded with vehemence "well that's just stupid!!!" (and she said it with a great deal of disdain in her tone of voice)

so the same shirt.
the same TSA position.
just two different TSA people, though both women.
with two completely different outcomes.

hhhhmmm looks like we have been stung for 16 quid a month with 2gb of data, but didn't really know how much we were gonna use, hey ho, guess i can go back to watching the Dis Unplugged on the train without worrying about going over my limit. Cool that we can phone home on 3 is included when in US. but can't text each other for free whilst there, so we have installed WhatsApp and can use the Disney Wifi :)

Yes we are both on 3, thanks for that, I must have misunderstood the sales pitch, even better :)

The way I understand it is you can use it as you would at home, we text UK and between us just as we would here and no charges have been added. You should only get charged if you ring or text a US phone.
