I guess it depends on how you use your phone (and the type of phone.) For us, we use the camera, the MDE, text messaging and even the calendar (never mind the regular uses of email and phone sometimes for work). For others who still use the 2 way radios to keep up with family and friends, then it's less of an issue.
Apparently now, WDW has charging stations which are also great, but I hate to "Battle" for a position to charge my phone and I don't always want to sit and wait (nor do I want to drop it off and then come back for it). So for me, it is a requirement. For my DW, not so much. (She uses her phone much less than I do and of course she is generally with me most of the time throughout the park so her battery lasts longer).
I just bought an inexpensive portable charger at CVS about a year ago. It is about the size of a deck of cards and has worked very well for multiple trips. I just slip it in my purse along with my phone and we're good to go. It works very well. It usually will charge both my phone & my husband's phone easily will juice to spare.

The funny thing is, it depends on your need. I have a bigger (more powerful) one because as a parent to kids on "Field Trips" as well as WDW trips (and other places), it's just better to be able to keep the kids who TEXT non-stop charged so that when I need to get a hold of them, I don't hear "But my battery was dead".
If it were just me and my DW, I'd probably opt for the simple one from the drug store as it would work well for that need.

We did have our 7 year old grandson with us this past May. We were able to keep 2 phones & 2 Kindles charged up nicely. Now, we're not quite at the kids texting constantly stage yet. We have 2 older granddaughters, as well, so I'm sure it's coming! LOL!!
I have a Rockford pocket power. Not only will it charge your phone, it will run your laptop and jump start your car. One of the best investments I've made. I can get about 150 full phone charges out of it or around 10 jump starts before I have to charge it. The one time I ran my laptop on it I got 2 full laptop charges from it. It's a little larger than most, about 6 inches by 3 inches by 1 inch. But imagine discovering your daughter left the dome light in the back seat on and killed your car battery, now you don't have to search and wait for someone to jump start you.
You can get them for around $85 now. I've had mine for 2 years and paid the $235 price, but I don't regret it.
I'm a mechanic and drive a tow truck, it comes in real handy jump starting cars. Thanks to it I usually don't have to break out the jumper cables or heavy jump box.
And you should see the look on people's faces when I jump their vehicle with something about the size of a pack of lunch meat.
