Hola! My very first post, for our very first (!!!!!!!) trip to Disneyland!!!!!! 12/26-28, and one more day 1/11 after skiing in Tahoe (my passion).Yes, we're excited. 2 adults and our nearly 7 yo boy, first things first: ACCOMODATIONS. After a little research, the following seem to be BEST DEALS regarding Price and Location, quality (for 2-3* Motels/Hotels, no luxury required) breakfast, pool, parking, etc. Could you savvy friends give us some thoughts (and further suggestions) on the following preliminary list:

HoJo Anaheim Harbor Blvd.
Candy Cane Inn
Super 8 Disnelyland Park
Hotel Royal Plaza
Best Western Park Place Inn
Park Vue Inn
Hawthorne Suites (Hyatt)
Annabella Hotel
Fairfield Inn
Best Inn
Carousel Inn

Which are too far to walk (over 1/2 mile)?
Which are real dives?
Best deals for tickets?

Much appreciated!!

Gracias!

My opinion:

Best deals for hotels - accommodations, walking distance, etc.

Howard Johnson - nice grounds, a little further than some, but within walking distance

Candy Cane Inn - most popular non-Disney hotel - about the same distance as Howard Johnson in the opposite direction. Offers deluxe continental breakfast - owners take a special interest, and it shows

Best Western Park Place Inn - closest hotel/motel to walk to the parks. Offers continental breakfast. Grounds aren't much to speak of, miniscule pool, however, very popular, so it must be okay.

Carousel Inn - walking distance, simple continental breakfast - reviews are decent about here - nice view from the breakfast room

Annabella - Nice motel, but on the other side of Disneyland - you'd have to take the shuttle from here - however, it is another pretty popular place to stay

The Candy Cane is on there just not marked. It is the large U shaped motel half an inch above the dot marked Four Points.

I don't know about the Royale Plaza (other than the one at the WDW hotel plaza)
The HoJo is great, My favorite. The Candy Cane Is also great.
Best Western Park Place Inn is a good place as well and is locate closest to the parks (closer than two of the three Disney hotels). I really liked the Anabella as well.
I have heard that the Super 8 is fine though no frills ( I have personally had great luck with loads of Super 8's. It is a farther wlak though.
The Carousel gets decent reviews and is close as well.
Fairfield Inn gets okay - good reviews.
The Hawthorn Suites is okay but less than convenient.
Don't know anything about the Best Inn
The Park Vue gets the worst reviews. We had an okay time there. It was comfortable but a bit noisy. Other people have not been as fortunate.

The Howard Johnson is a great property with landscaping, interior corridors and most rooms have balconies. The Candy Cane is a two story motel with loads of personality. Room decore is pretty. Both of these places are a 7-10 minute walk to the front gates.
Park Place Inn has nice decore and was comfortable and is a 4-6 minute walk to the front gates.

Oh, an inside betting room... LOL !!!

Gracias amigos, of course first to Mary Jo, then daannzzz, pecking orders are respected.

Any others besides the ones I/You mentioned, within walking distance, and similar price range of others?

daannzzz, your love for Disney at Xmas, is it overwhelmed by the crowds? You see, we must be there at least 12/27,28 (tuesday and wednesday) and I want to know what we're in for, line-wise?

If we are first at entrance (7:30AM), use Ridemax and Fastpass, and hit the popular places first are we over the hurdle?

Hasta luego.

We went to Howard Johnson and loved it - no breakfast but there's a great Mimi's across the street and Mcdonalds and the rest of the fast food collection on the walk to DL.

It has great staff, nice rooms and a heated pool and nice gardens.

It's about 500 yards walk - we did it in about 10 minutes with a 5 year old.

From this site and trip advisor.com, the overwhelming favourites are candy Cane and Howard johnson - I'd say you can't go wrong with either.
