I am taking a trip at the end of September and booked a rental through Priceline for 12 days. Now I am thinking of extending the trip to 14 days. What are the odds that I can get the rental company (Hertz) to just add on two days when I pick the car up? Obviously the rate will be much higher, but can this be done?

Okay, this can't be or maybe it can be the real Neal p Harris. I would change your Ressie before you get there to include extra days. Most likely hertz will honor your extra days at the counter. Sorry I'll miss your performance for the CP this year.

Yes, this is the real Neil Patrick Harris asking about a Priceline car rental. ;)

You can't change the reservation when you book via Priceline though. That's why I'm asking because I figured you would have to just wait until pickup to make any changes. Worst case scenario, they say no and I book a different car through Priceline for the last two days.

Yep, that's what I would do, change at counter or just make another ressie, if that's what they require. They should combine, so u won't have to return to airport or they can give you address of local hertz. Welcome to disboards!!!

I don't have any experience with that, but according to WMPete, who owns these boards, he tried to add a few days to his car rental and it almost doubled the original price!!! It was pretty ridiculous. I would make another rental reservation. That way, you can cancel it if you find you don't add the extra days, or keep it if you do add.
And welcome to the DIS.

I have done this with Budget. It wasn't too bad, but you do have to wait until y ou get to the counter

I would book something "cancelable" for your extra 2 days. Then if Hetz says yes for a price you can live with just cancel the other. If they say "no" try PL again for those days

I do believe they include a daily rate in your reservation/contract too. A couple of times I had to extend a car rental by 1 day - they just used the rate listed in my contract.

Well. I heard that show.

1. He wanted to change the return location...
2. He had rented a premium car
3. He was in a high cost market (NE)

His "rant" was unjustified IMHO.

Hmm, I wonder what rate they would list in the contract on a Priceline reservation.

But, first he wanted to extend the time. And yes, NE is a high cost market...believe me, I know first hand!!!!
