Extend waitlist?

We are on a waitlist for 10/19-10/25. MS said that the waitlist would expire 9/19 and if we wanted to renew the waitlist we would have to call. Does renewing increase your chances of getting what you want? If we do renew, what does the process look like and when will it expire?

I don't know that it helps you get what you want, but I know if you don't renew you won't get it. If you don't renew you are off the waitlist.

You just call on 9/19 and tell them you want to extend the waitlist. That's it. It will then stay open until 7 days prior to your visit. If it hasn't cleared by then you are down to the day by day method! You get to call each day and see if something opened up!

I renewed by 10/1 to 10/3 waitlist on 9/1 or so and still no movement!

The reason they make you request to stay on a wait list once you get within 30 days of arrival is so you don't get blind-sided and have points go into the holding account.

If you have a back up points reservation (as many of us do) and the reservation you want is less points than the back up (that will be canceled), the "extra" points would go into the holding account. Holding points cannot be banked, expire at the end of the use year and may only be used to make a reservation that will begin no more than 60 days from the day you make the reservation. It's often very difficult to use holding account points - so MS doesn't want anyone to be unhappily surprised. This is even more important now that they don't call you before they make the reservation when the wait list works.

Okay, I guess I won't call MS to extend. Our waitlists are less points than the reservation we have now, so I guess that won't be a good idea. We have an April Use year and another reservation booked in Feb 09.
