express pass in january is it needed

trying to decide if the upgrade to an express pass resort is really needed for third weekend in January ?

the third monday is MLK day.

if you are going the weekend after, should be okay.

We've gone in late January many times (not MLK weekend proper) and never used or needed express pass. Cabana Bay all the way!!

If you hit MLK day or Celebration of Harry Potter weekend (last weekend in Jan) You will probably want to splurge. If you hit it at any other time I see no reason for it.

Actually the only thing that happens after park closing is the first day private event on Friday, everyone waiting for it has been in the parks all day. The rest of the weekend goes on during park hours and is open to the public. They have all kinds of activities and guest panels along with the stars from the movie right there at the stage in front of Rip Ride Rockit and the area is like a madhouse. I've attended the last 2 years.
