I am new to Universal and I am a bit confused about these procedures. I have seen people refer to paying for an express pass in other threads. I read in the Universal orlando guidebook (Kelly Monaghan's) that those came free with admission. What's the deal?

Also, am I currect that FOTL is for resort guests? What the difference between FOTL and Express Pass?

Thanks!

It can get confusing! Here is the breakdown on each express access offered. There are actually 3 right now.

http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/orlando/website/universalexpress_popup.html

You can use the express access kiosks available to all that have an entrance ticket to the park. (the ones you referred to as free)

They also have express pass plus- you pay for this booklet and it gives you a one time access to all the main rides/attractions.

The last is for onsite hotel guests, costs you nothing extra and allows you the same access as the above just unlimited times.

UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM Ride Access*
Enjoy theme park rides and attractions without having to wait in the regular lines at both Universal Studios® and Islands of Adventure. There's no additional charge!

Once inside a theme park, you can obtain an Express Pass with your choice of reserved times to gain access to an attraction's special UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM entrance (anticipated wait time is 15 minutes).

Guests may receive one Express Pass at a time.
You may receive your next Express Pass AFTER:
You have used your existing Express Pass, OR
The one-hour time slot to experience the attraction has expired. OR
Two hours have passed from the transaction time printed at the bottom of the pass

Upgrade to UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM PLUS*
Universal Express is FREE. However, purchase a Universal Express PLUS pass and enjoy express access to each attraction all with a single pass! No need to pick up additional passes for each attraction. Limit one time only per attraction using the Universal Express queue.

Purchase at Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure theme parks.

On-Site UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM*
For maximum benefit, stay at a Universal Orlando® On-Site Hotel- Portofino Bay Hotel, A Loews Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel®, or Royal Pacific Resort, A Loews Hotel - and enjoy UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM. Just present your hotel room key card at each attraction's Universal Express entrance--no Express Pass or ride reservations are necessary. There's no better way to get the most out of your day!

*UNIVERSAL EXPRESS and UNIVERSAL EXPRESS PLUS passes subject to availability and hours of distribution are limited. UNIVERSAL EXPRESS PLUS reserved access begins one hour after park opening. On-site hotel privileges good for hotel stay as indicated on the room key card. Only good for the number of guests staying in the room. Paid theme park admission required. Not valid for separately ticketed special events. Additional restrictions may apply. Anticipated maximum wait 15 minutes. Some attractions excluded.
