Explosions and shootings in Paris

Tonight has been a really scary night for my family, as my sister is studying abroad in Paris right now. She is totally fine, but supposed to fly out in just a couple of hours to Italy and she's really not sure what to do. I am so heartbroken to live in this world right now.

I thought I read where planes were flying, but should she call the airport? Her travel agent? Hopefully she will be able to get out ok.

That sounds really nice. There's an old saying, "you can wish in one hand and crap in the other, guess which one fills up first?" Islamic terrorists don't care about love and peace and quite frankly we will never see this world wide. When people quit trying to live in a fantasy and wake up to reality you will realize there's only one way to handle these groups. Prayer, wishing, talking isn't going to work. What don't people get? The Vatican is now saying we need to go after them, the Vatican.

It's time to wake up because this will happen elsewhere if we don't. Heck, a poster on here didn't even realize Syrian refugees were already entering their own city and if you don't think some of them coming in aren't already working for a terrorist, you are so sadly mistaken. This is just the beginning.

Not sure I can "like" this post enough.

These cockroaches need to be stopped or this wil continue.

Many don't realize how close we are to having this happen here. We've already arrested close to 100 people this year with ties to ISIS. They want to inflict pain here and everywhere else that don't agree with their beliefs.

Your hatred and fear literally rolls of the computer screen.

You were much nicer than the post I wrote and deleted before posting. This is EXACTLY what these people want...sow enough fear that our civil liberties get trampled.

I want to respond to those posts but I'd just get points. So I'll just agree with you.

I saw 9/11 up close and I will never forget it.

I'm not so sure THAT is what they are aiming for.

Found out not to long after coming home from work, at work had no clue this had all happened.

Wow. We've really reached the height of PC stupidity when just the suggestion that terrorism is possible here in the States means you are full of "hatred and fear".

Unbelievable. Some people are destined to learn every possible lesson the hard way - repeatedly.

I don't think that's what they're getting at. Hatred and fear would be the internment of US citizens of Japanese ancestry. It remains to be seen what the response would be. It's not "Let's go and let's go hard" like a bull in a china shop. Hatred and fear is treating everyone of a certain ancestry as if they are terrorists. A proper response should do something and not just give the appearance of doing something.

Rooting out terrorists isn't easy. I suppose it's possible round up everyone of a certain ancestry and just jail them, but what purpose does that serve? It's a lot harder than that, and it's not a "once and for all" solution.

It's not so easy when there are Americans of European ancestry joining their ranks.

Nothing like that was suggested in what was quoted.

What was suggested:
1) We have caught ISIS affiliated terrorists here
2) We need to go after the terrorists because these attacks aren't going to stop and it's inevitable that it will reach our shores (again).
3) They want to inflict pain/kill those that do not share their beliefs.

The response: You are full of hate.

That's what I mean by the height of PC stupidity. All those things are not just true, they are obvious. Yet we must bury our heads in the sand and feign ignorance for fear of offending someone. Even if the only ones who could possibly take justified offense to those statements are the terrorists wanting to kill innocents.

Sure they've been caught. But it took serious intelligence efforts and wasn't typically achieved by blunt force. Terrorism is a lot more complicated than just rooting them out, since more get recruited.

So exactly what to you propose? Where and how? You sound as if you think force is the only action that will work.

Tonight is not the night for arguing. There is plenty of time for that later. Tonight, take the time to remember the very real people who lost their lives in such a senseless way. Hug your kids. Tell your significant other what they mean to you. Call your parents and tell them you love them. Make the loss of those people's lives lead to something good, if ever so small.

I didn't propose anything. The question is why does any of that constitute being full of hate?

It was the comments about Syrian refugees that push it into that context. People who have been living with ISSI attacking them, as well as their own government attacking them, and no protection and have managed to flee being cast as responsible for this somehow. That is so very wrong. Yes, perhaps a tiny handful of ISIS members might sneak in with these people, but the much bugger and known threat is ISIS managing to recruit those already in the west, many born and raised here--they seem to do an excellent job of that which I find very frightening.

ISIS is terrible, and in many places, and very well funded and we all need to fight against them and be wary---but this does not mean we should become inhumane ourselves and see one another as the enemy and treat people as such based soley on their race or religion. That is what THEY do (they being ISIS). Why on earth would any poster here want to be more like them?

I read the posts quoted in post #167 - none of what you are saying is so bad was even remotely suggested.

In fact, what was said:
1) Terrorists are bad
2) We need to fight them
3) Some may have already snuck in

... is EXACTLY what you just said in this post. So it's OK when you say it, but for him it shows his dripping hatred and fear.

Why does it seem like those that always want to scream at other people about being more tolerant are usually the ones so quick to be rabidly intolerant - then pat themselves on the back for it?
