Explosions and shootings in Paris

Absolutely not, my point is that this happens often in some countries, and our news outlets do not always report on it.

Also, I thought it pertinent to make it clear that at this point, this is not related to the events in Paris

I wonder if we'll ever return to a time where our news outlets reallocate talents and resources in more substantive ways?

On a side note, does anyone know if any of the Kardashians are in need of a mani or pedi today? I've not kept up-to-date while I've been shillyshallying around waiting to hear how the world will rise up against terrorists.

Thanks for the telegraph link.

ETA: I realize the PP said "considering" I just found even that odd in light of nothing at all out of the ordinary even at the major airport in the country--where you might expect tight security and in the absence of hearing anything of the sort from German friends or on the German media I have checked in with today.
Could be--but seemed odd---thus me asking for a link (and thanks again for those of you who provided it)

Have you left the airside space of the airport? You're not likely so see anything different airside.

In London there has not been soldiers on the street, but certainly an increased armed police presence in stations and the City. Many offices have stepped up security presence too.

But simply because it's not ISIS doesn't mean it's not a threat or less important. Boko Horam(sp?) doesn't urge me to be any less vigilant.

Yeah, and there were reports that Boko Haram swore allegiance to ISIS.
There are a lot of questions regarding the organization level of ISIS. When Al Qaida first gained attention, many groups were eager to call themselves Al Qaida and carry out there own attacks without any official coordination from Bin Laden -- we may be seeing something similar here.

I don't think they move reporters around as much as they used to. BBC shares reporters with other outlets. And buys in some footage from freelance camera people now.

No, I have not. In the past I have seen longer, and more intense screening at passport control and longer lines with more intense screening for security entering in to the gates when terror threat levels are high. I did not see that on either the US or German side this trip--which I found rather surprising given all that is going on in the world. In fact, I breezed through security in Denver faster yesterday than any trip out of the US that I recall in the past decade. I was sort of expecting long lines and more intense scrutiny, but apparently not.

Not the OP but a quick Google search turned this up

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ps-into-streets-for-first-time-since-war.html

I don't know if this is a credible news source. The statement from the OP and this news source only states that Germany is considering not that they have put troops in the streets yet so that is probably why you did not see them.
Thanks for providing the link. I'm running late this morning...just posted a few "headlines" that popped up this morning. :crazy2:

Just a random thought running through my mind (no news source) as I try to apply logic to the refugee situation. The refugees are fleeing ISIS (and Assad also). This fear is so great that they give up everything to get away. At the same time ISIS has said they are hiding among them. I would think that the refugees would want us to make sure that we are screening out ISIS.

Mali does not appear to be ISIS related. They have a big problem in parts of Africa with small cells of terrorists, they have had a handful of incidents in 2015 alone. Because this attack is on a hotel that has international guests, it's made international news.
I didn't say or even think it was related. My comment was in response to another hostage situation, additional security measures being considered in Europe, more planes diverted/rerouted, etc. Thus, my "WTH, this is insane". I can't post, what I actually said. It included quite a few expletives, that would have required a lot of ************ ;) ::yes::

Well yes, but it was going to be done, anyway. And it's not just us, it's also the UN. There are layers of screening.

I have three different friends/relatives who have flown since the Paris attacks. One was just a domestic flight, one other flew to London and the last one flew to China. All three said it has been the easiest travel they have ever experienced. They all noted how they breezed through security and had zero delays. All are seasoned travelers and have flown after other disasters (terrorist and otherwise) so they expected things to be different, even if just for show. Not sure what that says.

All of this makes me think this guys family finally did the right thing and helped in his capture. No proof but news sources have said that help in finding his location came from Morocco.

I'm waiting to see if the little brother was cooperating, or if it's just info they got out of him while they had him in custody.

When the subject comes up of how the isolation of refugees and other disenchanted souls in low income housing breeds terrorism I wonder if some people have an image that all Americans get to live like the Kardashians and get upset when that doesn't happen.

We don't have inside information to be able to know. Just speculation... One of the possibilities could be they have added additional workers and that has sped up the process.

I flew internationally for years, sometimes just after terrorist incidents. Security varied even back then. It's nothing new.

Most have eliminated the vast majority of their talent pool located in the many (also eliminated) news bureaus staffed around the world.

Much cheaper to have a few interns that know how to monitor internet news feeds, YouTube and Twitter.

Have you ever met and talked to a refugees? I have a few times. They generally are HIGHLY motivated to work to regain the things they lost. They really aren't interested in Hollywood types. Now soccer and American football? Those did interest them.

Disaffected criminal youth are a different population altogether.

Interesting--so it was not just my experience--yeah I do wonder how to take that. Hmmm

Sorry, that was a misguided attempt at humor.

I have only met children of refugees, no one that entered as a refugee directly. Locally we have a fairly big amount of Kurdish people who I think came as refugees. But on the subject of football - one of my daughters has several friends in her PhD program who are not Americans. She attends a huge SEC school where football is practically a religion unto itself. She has tried many times to get them to go to football games and they are just not interested. We are talking huge games where they have inexpensive student tickets to one of the hottest events in town and they will not give it a try. She is trying so hard to get these guys interested in any activities, even tried organizing extracurricular teams in other sports. I give her an A for effort.
