We are sometimes asked if luggage is permitted on the Skyliner and until recently I wasn't sure. The Disney website specifically says it is not permitted on buses but doesn't say anything about Skyliner. What we found out is that it IS permitted on the Skyliner!

A couple of weeks ago my daughter and I took Mears from the airport to Pop to wait for our friends. We were not staying on property and to fill in time, rather than wait at the airport it was an easy decision to head to Pop, check out the lobby renovations, enjoy some lunch and wait for our friends to pick us up.

The problem arose when our friends arrived and under no circumstances would the guard allow them in to pick us up. This wasn't a complete surprise as we knew guards were strict but it did throw a wrench in things as we needed to find a way to meet up with them.

First choice was to try our hand at meeting them at DHS as that was an easy Skyliner hop from Pop. As we rolled up to the Skyliner with 3 pieces of luggage, 2 backpacks and another item, I was unsure if we would be permitted to board. There were 3 CMs standing at the entrance and I looked at them with a questioning look and they welcomed us aboard, no questions or problems at all! Phew!! (Next choice would have been to Uber to Disney Springs but I was hoping we would not need to do that.)

So, is luggage permitted on the Skyliner? I can say, 'Yes! It most definitely is!' :)

I would put an * with your last statement though. Just because those three CMs allowed it, doesn't necessarily mean that's the policy. Just like the gate guards have discretion on whether to allow drivers to enter a property they're not staying at, it's possible there will be CMs who DON'T allow luggage on the Skyliner.

I'm glad it worked out for you, and hope it works out for others, I personally wouldn't count on it.

I’m more baffled by the concept of them not allowing your friends past the gate to pick you up, while they’d allow any old Uber in to pick you up at the same spot to take you to a neutral site.

Yes, they don’t want people using Pop or AoA as free DHS parking, but picking people up at the main building is a different (milder) ask than “hey, we want to park at Pop to visit friends who are staying here.”

Glad the luggage worked out!

That's what I was thinking. Weird that they wouldn't let OPs friends through to pick them up. I have had friends pick me up at Beach Club and at BoardWalk, both of which can have strict guards at the gate because they don't want people parking there to go to Epcot.

OP wasn’t a registered guest at Pop so my guess is that is why the guard was a stickler here. Funny the guard stuck to strict rules but the Skyliner was cool lol

What I was going to say! They are really strict at Pop. We had to come in a day early one trip and couldn't get a room at the WL, so we stayed at Pop for that first night. My friends, who are management level at Disney, were not allowed to come in and park to see us! The guard refused entry. So they parked at the Studios and took the Skyliner over.

We were in 3 different Skyliner stations and no one batted an eye. I asked if it was a problem when we were at CBR and they said, luggage is permitted.

We were not registered guests at Pop so were not surprised and had a Plan B (and C) ready if needed. When you get picked up by friends, are you a registered guest? Just curious.

Oh, yes, I didn't catch that. I have had friends drive in and pick me up at Disney hotels, but it was always the hotel where I was a registered guest.

I can see why luggage would be allowed in the Skyliner and not on busses. On the Skyliner they can put you on your own ride vehicle and your luggage is not a hindrance to anyone else. Busses are a different story

Until you can’t. I’ve been on the skyliner and our passenger mates each had a carryon size piece. They annoyingly spun them.
