Explaining your love of Disney to a non-believer

It was amazing... I was sitting there between classes and happened to mention to a random classmate that I had just bought my girlfriend a WDW trip for her b-day.... She had no idea how someone could get so enthused of WDW. She also repeatedly made fun of the fact that I was practically glowing :goodvibes just talking about the trip that is 2 1/2 months away!

She would spiel on and on about how you can't leave a ride without being bombarded by a giftshop; but without realizing how well themed that the shop was in relation to the ride and land that it was in!

I tried to explain to her the beauty in the nuances, of background music and walkway coloring reflecting the themes, and well... you know, the list goes on and on! I even tried to rationalize it by explaining that WDW is not a place to go just to go, it is a place where you can escape the hecticness and stress of life, and feel like a 6-year-old when you can't stop smiling upon seeing Mickey. People take things to seriously, even in the MK and the rest of Disney World.... And as Walt said: "I hope we never lose sight of the fact that this was all started by a Mouse."

Meaning (In my interpretation): Don't take things to seriously! Sit back, ride some rides, buy some Mickey ears at one of the 10,000 souvenier shops, and have a great time being surrounded by the beauty, magic, and fantasy that is Walt Disney World.

I just find it amazing how someone can still be so cynical about such an amazing place! Well, to each his own I guess, I just hope I never get to be like that!

This is EXACTLY why we love to go!

Beauty, Magic, Fantasy all rolled up in Love. What more could you ask for?

It is truely a feeling that you just can't explain to someone that has either never had the fortune to make a trip to WDW, or someone who is simply too jaded to enjoy the fantasy and departure from the "real world."

You can only help them live it. We just helped my boss and his DW and two kids plan their Disney trip, and they loved it. It is all in the details, and unless you are radical like those in these forums, you just miss so much. Now that I've been Disneyfied, I'll never go back! :rotfl:

YepsenCP,
I read your signature. You were a cast member, how fun! You drove a tram?
Neat college program. My university-days summer jobs were not that exciting. At least you get to go back and you must have a few secrets to be able to share with your girlfriend when you are there.

My trip is so close I can almost start packing ;)

Too cool jepsoncp :cool1:
Dicided to respond to you on your own thread. Sounds like you are an awesome writer! (I'm in grad school)
I guess great minds do think alike, or at least post threads on the exact same topic, the exact same time , and on the exact same night! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Happy trip thoughts

I don't know if the love for Disney can be truly explained. It's something you have to feel in your heart. Aren't we all lucky that we "get it"? :earsboy:

foxfire...that's one of the best remarks I've heard :flower: If I were a tag fairy, you would have one!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I'm about as sarcastic and cynical as they come most of the time. (I suppose it's a defense mechanism or something. :) ) But at WDW, those things tend to disappear pretty quickly.

I think that not only is it the environment, it's sharing that environment with those closest to you.

That is beautiful!!! Mind if I use this in my scrapbook!?!? :goodvibes

Good to hear that others out there have had to be there own support group while dealing with the impossible task of trying to convince a non-addict of the magic that truely is Disney...

Keep up the faith!

Yeah, being castmember was an absolute blast for me! I drove the tram, spieled on the back, and worked in the Auto Plaza at the TTC/MK. It was some of the most fun I've had, the best is spieling during exit on the rediculously busy nights, when there are thousands of people waiting to get to there cars, and you just keep going. It was hectic, but fun!

And besides, I was the best tram-spieler anywhere on Disney Property!

I can totally relate to you on this. This is a hot topic, there have been numerous threads on this. I started a few myself. I am constantly definding this to all my friends and family. They cannot understand why I keep going back year after year.

I went there on my honeymoon and people thought I was nuts. My friends are always saying dosen't it get boring. I just say if you have to ask that, then you truly don't get it. IMHO there are two types of people - Disney People and Non-Disney People. LOL.

Some people think it's too expensive, but for what you get I don't think it's that bad. When I take other vacations, all I keep thinking is wow, nothing compares to Disney as far as getting the most bang for your buck. I could go back year after year and never stop being in awe.

I totally agree Stemikger, there are two types of people: Disney and non-Disney folk. And frankly I'd be willing to be that the Disney folk are generally much happier and in much better spirits! Not to say that non-D folks aren't happy, but we in the in are always driving to the next moment we can walk through the turnstiles and enter the most magical place on earth, and truely understand why has been coined with a name that is so appropriate! I don't know how you can go there, and not be happy on at least some level!

Beautiful and right on!

I have the hardest time explaining to my family, as well as my co-workers! But they all come to me whenever they decide they want to go! :) But everyone tells me I should work for WDW since I know so much! Thanks to this board! :) I have no problem telling WDW how well CMs are doing and how much I enjoy each trip... but my family is another problem.... Oh well, they don't understand the magic as much as I do! TGFDIS (Thank Goodness For DIS)! :)

My friends and family think I am crazy for going over to WDW for nearly every holiday I have.

I am now getting married there in November, and about 20 friends/family are coming over. I cant wait to see the faces and reactions of people when they have experienced MK

They think I'm crazy the way I go on about it...they will see :)
