I just don't get it. I am actually annoyed that I have to suffer through just the commercials for such a movie. I will be watching a light hearted sitcom with my 10 year old, and then a commercial will come on for the latest "Saw" movie (or Jennifer's Body, or any one of those types of movies) and I have to quickly turn off the TV. I guess the argument could be, "Just don't watch it" but like I said, I may be watching something I enjoy, and I don't think I should be subjected to even the commercials.

Also, even if *I* choose to not watch, I kind of don't get why anyone would enjoy such stuff? It is beyond gore and blood, it is very dark and torturous and really downright evil. I don't like that this stuff has become "the norm". I fear many of today's youth (and adults) are being desensitized, and I just don't think it is a good thing.

Maybe I watch the news too much, and I know there are sick people out there that actually do stuff like this, and I just don't think it should be "entertainment."

If you are a fan of these types of movies, I would love to hear your reasoning. I am not the type of person to say, "YOU are disgusting" or "YOU have something wrong with you." I realize...maybe there is a valid point I am missing???:confused3 I am eager to discuss it it in a civilized manner.

I know.....and I know pepole who have gone to see ALL of them. It's too much for me.

I don't get it either...mostly because in those movies the acting is awful, the writing is laughable, and the overall film is simply poor excuse for celluloid. The subject matter doesn't appeal to me either. Then again, I feel EXACTLY the same way about chick-flicks (Love Happens, Bridget Jones, Love Actually etc etc..)

I am with you, I can't stand them. My hubby on the other hand loves them. I tell him he is sick and demented. lol. Anyway,I make him go into the other room and watch it or wait until I am not around.

I don't know either! That is just violence and gore for the sake of it! I don't mind a little blood if it goes with the story, but those movies are too much! Yuck! I agree about the previews, too. No thanks.

While I am not a fan of SAW, I would rather watch that than a light hearted sitcom.;)

Not a fan of scream-gore horror but I do love horror. My preference has a supernatural/fantasy/sci-fi element to the movie.

For example are you a fan of "The Lord of the Rings" movie? That had a ton of gory battle scenes. However war is brutal and vital to the story.

Or do you shy away from all blood and gore?

I totally agree with you OP. I just don't get it. I find the movies downright disturbing and I think the directors who make these movies must be a little "off." I think there is enough pain, torture, murder, rape, etc. in REAL LIFE. Why in the world would I want to sit through 2 hours of it?

And Saw is totally different than Lord of the Rings...:confused3

I agree, I can't stand the Saw movies BUT I think they are this generation's slasher films in attempts of gore and mindless movies.

I do not like the gorey horror movies either, but I can appreciate the fact that sometimes it is needed. Saving Private Ryan comes to mind. The first part of that movie was brutal for me, but it overall it helped make the movie better.

Of course SAW is different however the OP wanted to discuss gore in movies, not just SAW. So I was asking if she hated all gore.

For example "The Matrix" is pretty violent however I love it. The sci-fi part of the movie is what draws me to it.

meh, I just think they're fun. Its fun to get scared and huddle against my DH as though its real. LOL. I just enjoy the adrenaline rush. I actually only enjoyed the first SAW because it had a good story line. I tried to watch the 2nd and 3rd but they were crap so I gave up on them. I really just enjoy a good scary movie though.

Can't really explain it more than that.

I think the OP is referring to the movies like Saw that are beyond blood and gore, they are downright evil and horrifying. just sick and demented. not just blood and gore as a consequence of something in the movie, blood and gore for the sake of blood and gore......
I don't mind blood/gore like in a movie like private ryan, but the ones like Saw are just too much for me too.

Hi MM!

Well, I guess I wasn't clear, but what I meant by second paragraph...that these are beyond gore and blood, it is evil for evil's sake.

True, I am not a huge fan of blood, usually have to cover my eyes, but I LOVED Pulp Fiction. I would not see "Passion of The Christ" because I knew I would have to cover my eyes for the majority of the movie, but I understand why the blood and gore is in the movie.

alexandria-I agree...it just scares me...what's NEXT? Seems every generation, it gets worse! Yikes!:scared1:

I must say, I am not a fan of all the "CSI" shows, either. I just don't get what is entertaining about dead bodies, murder, etc? Like, they will show how a girl dies... she is held captive and begging for her life, then the scene switches and she is lying dead with that red headed Caruso dude standing over her. It's too "real" and I am bothered it is entertainment to people.

yes, exactly npmommie, you were typing at the same time as me! :)

angelhalo-Ok, I appreciate your response. Maybe I am freaking out that something like that could really happen in real life to me or my daughter or something, so I cannot see any enjoyment in it. I am glad you tried to explain it to me, without getting huffy! :goodvibes

Meh no need for huffyness. Different strokes for different folks. I also like CSI and the forensic case files type shows on A&E. I guess it just intrigues me. I actually don't enjoy the later SAW movies because DH and I were like hmmm now they're just trying to think up creative ways to kill people and there's no good story. I do like the older style slasher flicks like Friday the 13th. but they too became dumb after a while. i guess we just enjoy the scare factor.

SAW, Lord of the rings and CSI are 3 different genres to me.

CSI is a crime solving show for which they need a crime to solve so that does not bother me but the autopsy pictures could be a little less elaborate.

Lord of the rings is fictional and while the war is there its a good vs evil story.

Saw on the other hand is glorifying a killer killing for killings sake. Its senseless and like the OP i have no idea why people watch it. I love scary movies. I like FInal Destination series thought yes people die in it too there is a sort of logic in it. But SAW, Hostel and movies in the same lines are clearly something I cant appreciate.

I am yet to see a reasoning as to why people like them

Wait a minute here! You liked Pulp Fiction? Now that is gore for the sake of gore! All of those guys movies in fact. I got saddled into watching the Kill Bill movies and really could they have killed more people?

The first Saw movie had some good elements to it and interesting plot turns. Way less "gore" than the Pulp Fiction director has in his movies. Those are just stacks of body parts and buckets of blood... nothing but gore.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised the OP liked a Tarantino flick. He is The KING of senseless gore. HIm and Eli Roth. I swear I'd hate to be their kids.

"Want daddy to tell you a bedtime story?"

"NO daddy..Plee-hee-heeeease NO!"

Now I will agree Saw is right up there with the goriest, but each person/victim is challenged with a situation that exaggerates what they haven't been grateful for in their lives or b/c they have abused their body or privileges. The movie does have a message-but you have to sit through a LOT of gore to get there...I watch them all.

It is just consistent lowering of the bar as to what is acceptable. As people are desensitized, worse is needed to entertain. It is the same with language, everyday living, manners, morals....the bar is consistently lowered. What is acceptable, and what is not is the result of those actions.
