Explain DVC costs

We just got back from a packed week at SSR. We saw all the DVC stuff but didn't have time on this trip to go to the presentation on DVC. Looking through the brochure and online, nothing tells you (at least that I saw) the costs and how it works.

Is it a yearly/monthly payment that you agree to pay for a certain period of time? Is it a one-time payment that gets you a certain number of points a year?

I understand how you get resort time and how/why certain resorts or times of year costs more...but what is the actual monetary outlay to buy in?

You pay a flat fee to purchase the points. Prices vary. You can buy either directly from Disney Vacation Club or through a reseller like The Timeshare Store.

If you click on the The Timeshare Store banner at the top of this page you can see some listings.

After that you will pay annual maintenence fee's and real estate taxes. All of which are pretty reasonable.
