Expiring points extended

Has anyone seen the extension on their dashboard? My 2019 June UY points from the canceled April trip do not show anything that indicates they are extended for a year. I want to move them to my October trip, but probably need to call member services to do that anyway.

Someone mentioned that they talked to MS. Those will not be done until the beginning of June,

They are currently working on April Uy and taking care of those accounts.

People who had booked resorts got full refunds. People who have annual passes had them put on pause. People who bought passes had the expiry date extended. Dvc owners who have invested 1000s in Disney have no recourse to dues that Disney has had in pocket for 2 years?

Sadly, yes. But I mentioned it (somewhere) before....the benefits of ownership are tempered by the risks of ownership. These risks are reflected in the price we pay. If ownership came with no risks, DVC would easily cost 2x-3x.

If I rented an apartment and it burned down, I stop paying rent and leave. If my house burned down, I still have a mortgage/property taxes.

It sucks, but it’s the burden we carry.

i had moved points to RCI as they were expiring. I've called DVC three times, the wait was 60 minutes +. Obviously, lots of people are calling to fix this. Hoping I can move my points back from RCI and bank them.

Try the chat feature on the DVC website. I’ve used it 3 times in the past 2 weeks and it’s been terrific! They can do most transactions.

I agree to try chat, it has been reported as well that the late banking of June UY won’t be done until June, So, you could also just send an email to have them returned from RCI.

If I had put my points into RCI, and I didn't by choice; I wouldn't move any back until I was ready to make or apply them to a reservation, and if they would let me, I would only move as many as I needed for that particular reservation. I'm not sure if they are requiring move back of all or nothing, but this certainly protects as many points as possible as we move forward during a period when reservations are going to be harder and harder to come by.

If members do move points back from RCI would they be allowed to redeposit them into RCI if they do not use them for DVC reservations?

The expiration dates of the points being returned have been extended for either 6 months or 12 months, so the 45 days before expiration required to redeposit them into RCI (without RCI restriction) is a long way off.

Good question. What I find interesting is that DVC did not use the term banking when referring to what is happening to 2019 points, but just extended for a year...same use time, but thought was an interesting choice of words,

I do think that if one wants to pull them back, it will be an all or nothing and be required to do it now. I doubt they are going to let people make the decision ongoing. My thought is that as soon as the official date is announced, this exception will end..with some notice of course.

I do not know if this has been already mentioned, but I was surprised that expiring April points were extended, since those points were in the last two weeks of their UY when the resorts closed. However, there probably were not a lot of April points in that situation.

I agree but since they made it from expiration and not resort open, they are getting at most 4 months of use, From what I understand, they are beginning to put into accounts, so those owners can not book with them until that step is complete.

Given how much rescheduling is going on, I bet some of those owners may find it tough to even find what they want, when they want to travel. I bet DVCM figured that as well.

so basically all the folks/Karens whining that it wasn’t fair will have a very high bar to clear to prove that DVCM diluted their ownership. whole lot of hot air in a stressful time, it seems. this will pass.

We are in the same boat. We'll be waiting to see what happens too.

My understanding is that you should be able apply those points to those reservations with no problem. I think there are a lot of us planning to do exactly this, whether it be with banked or soon-expiring points.

Although your correct the email did not call it banking I talked to Member Services today and banking is what will happen. What I was told is they are going through every affected contract manually and that the process should be completed by the first week of June.

She also said that no one is allowed to touch those points and that a separate department is handling it. She said it was being handled differently than the "unborrowing" which could be done by a supervisor if someone calls wanting to book.

I just wondered if they had a reason...maybe to give them more leeway with what to do with other UYs.

But, its good to hear about the process.

DVC has made a good faith effort to assist members during an unprecedented event. I think they've done as well as we could have reasonably expected. These solutions may not be ideal for everyone but within the bounds of reason, they have demonstrated why we all have a certain level of trust in Disney to do the right thing. I'm also glad that members who were facing the loss of points have some ways to use the expiring points. Nice job, DVC!

DVC is using our money to pay for this so people shouldn't be applauding DVC. I also personally don't view changing the rules around expiration, banking, and restricting future borrowing as "the right thing".

The plan seems reasonable but it is impossible to make everyone happy.

It is what it is but I would have been happy with keeping the rules the same and if Disney/DVC wanted to pay out of their pocket to make these people while they could have done that.

I think that it's about as fair as they could do it given the circumstances.

It's not as bad as it could have been. I have to expect Disney has a very specific reopening date in mind for at least DVC. I can't imagine they make this change if resorts could still be closed another 6-9 months.

One thing being reported is the expired banked points are not in the account to be used online. Leads me to believe they may have decided to use their own developer points for that. If thst is the case, those points would have been used anyway.

So, it’s really the late banking that is adding, but, given that they did it, it seems to me that there may not have been that many.

Doing nothing would have overloaded the system for at least 6 to 8 months, and DVCM couldn’t let that happen. They have to make sure everything balances, as best they can, even if it was for short term.

However, Aug UY will have at most 2 months to use their 2018 banked points.

As I mentioned on another thread, it does not seem right that for expiration dates on 2018 banked points, April and June UYs "leapfrogged" the expiration dates for that same category of points for Aug. Sept, and Oct UYs.
