Help me decide where to stay please. We have a 4 night stay and I want to in the MK area. We have a 2 year old and the pool will be important because we will be going there daily. There are more rooms released under the late summer sale for our dates so I want to make sure I am making the right choice. We are currently (moved into because of the sale) in a deluxe room at the Wilderness Lodge- it like $529 a night. We don't need the deluxe room, but it was available so I thought why not. Well now I can get a regular club level room at the WL for like $399 so that would be a savings and I would be closer to the lounge. Or I can do the Poly CL for $599 - but is there pool still under construction? The money isn't necessarily the most important thing- I just want to make the best decision. And we probably don't need the space of the deluxe.
First, there's no wrong place to stay. We've stayed at almost every WDW resort, and generally enjoyed them all. To tell the truth, the little ones have probably enjoyed the value resorts best of all. AoA is super cute and has an excellent food court. The cartoon features of all the values really appeal t the little ones.
What I'm getting at is that the two year old will have preferences, but probably not the same criteria you have; any increase in cost is not likely to = a more fun trip for your child, it is mostly about what the adults prefer.
As for WL vs. Poly, with a two year old- I'd take WL.
While the Poly pool is close tot he CL building, the rest of Poly is not. You say you are going during the summer promo. That means it will be HOT. It also = good odds of afternoon storms. That's problem at Poly.
Getting around Poly with a stroller is a big pain. The walkways are not covered. If you want to do anything outside your building, you have to walk along exposed walkways. In blistering sun and pouring rain. the CL building is on the lagoon, not near the main building, and not near the TTC. Poly was not designed with strollers or wheelchairs in mind. First you have to go form your room to the elevator (not the stairs), then you walk outdoors tot he main building, then you walk around the main building tot he elevators. Poly dining is very popular, so the small elevators are often crowded.
The other thing we don't love about Poly is all the brown. Everything at Poly is brown. Then again....WL is also very brown. Still, WL is warm, where Poly just seems dark to us. I'm also no fan of brown bedding. There's no hiding stains on white bedding. I'm not saying Poly is dirty, I'm saying white bedding is relaxing.
The rooms at WL are slightly smaller than Poly, but we've always found them large enough.
The CL rooms at WL are on the same floor as the lounge. to me that's always a big plus, but it is an extra bonus with a two year old. I also really like the overall compact feel of WL. With a stroller, WL is much easier to navigate. The resort is a horseshoe, so all the rooms are close to the pool, more or less. Also, you can go from your room to the restaurants, to the lobby without going outside. The entire walkway to the bus stop is covered- a big plus in storms! The only walkway that is exposed is the one to the boat. (it is worth noting, boats stop during lightning.)
