Can anyone tell me how long pop is good for after the expiration date?

If it's diet, it's pretty much right at the due date -- otherwise, it starts to taste nasty.

I'm not sure about the other.

diet starts to break down pretty quick, but regular should be good for about 30 days or so.

Have to say we usually drink it long after the expiration date. I have a cousin who works at a bottling company and he said they just keep making the expiration dates shorter and shorter and he couldn't figure out why since nothing else has changed. :rolleyes1

:confused3 I'm confused, why did they start making the expiration dates shorter?

I just checked the date on some that DH brought home from the branch last week and it was dated May 11, 2009. I asked DH about it and he said thats pretty much how its always been dated.

It may be a regional issue because its not the case in our area.

I can tell you that if it's really old, it won't taste good!

Also I do think it eats through the can... my hubby had some full cans from over seas and they leaked through the bottem of the cans!

I do remember opening a can and it tasted a bit off and we poored it into a glass to see all kinds of stuff floating in it!

Now I don't have to worry, we drink it as fast as we bring it in!:thumbsup2

Pop, what's that?!?! Just kidding! Where I live, we call everything Coke. ;)
I wouldn't go more than a couple of weeks past the exp date. I think something happens with the sugar in it...I dunno but it gets syrupy and tastes gross. :scared:

Well, as someone who grew up without expiration dates on anything, I don't pay much attention to them. If milk doesn't smell good, don't drink it. If sandwich meat looks discolored or smells off, don't use it. In other words, before expiration dates if we bought something we used it as needed and never thought anything about it, aside from using common sense.

Totally agree! Most of the expiration dates on things like soda aren't necessary and if you drink/eat past the date nothing will happen.

The flavor will change over time. I have had several types of soda a few years after they expired. Some tasted better than when fresh, some tasted worse. It all depends on the brand. There is no real set guidelines. I don't think anything in the soda can really go wrong since its mostly preservatives and flavorings anyway. ; )

It's soda here.;)

It's funny - we bought a few 12 packs at the same time. The expiration on the Coke brands was only a couple of months long while the Pepsi brands were good until well into 2009:confused3 All were diet, so it wasn't a difference between regular and diet. And the Coke's were recent as they contained the most recent Beijing Olympics can.

I can only say that Reg Coke after the expiration date tastes horrible. I know since we usually get that at my MIL's house.

diet tasts nasty regardless of date:lmao:

actually we don't buy soda or drink it anymore. the only time the kids have it is at a restaurant, movies or friends house. soda is soooooo bad for your body (diet too) that i refuse to have it in the house and make it a regularly used beverage.

Diet gets pretty nasty, especially if it is stored outside the fridge.
The ones with sugar seem to last longer, but still go flat after a while.

Nobody in Massachusetts drinks soda. We drink Tonic. HaHa we laugh at expiration dates.

craisins that is.

I was given a can of diet coke at a party once and it was beyond gross. It was over a year past the expiration date. Very metalic and artificial tasting. Since then I pay attention to the dates on the can.
