Realized that there were threads for qsfb and merch. Was wondering if any of the posters here have worked in custodial that want to share their experiences. You know, where you worked, what you did most of the days, hours, best/worst part about it, etc. I think the best way to learn about these roles is to hear from people who have done them... so let us know how it is!

Hello!
I worked custodial on a college program in the fall of '09. I went down completely upset that I had that role, but hopeful that it would be fine. It honestly was not as bad as I had been imagining. I worked Epcot Future World, and all of my managers there were super nice and helpful. Unfortunately, all of them have been transferred to other locations. Basically what I did all day was work restrooms, as they were short handed with females and needed them to help in those areas. Cleaning restrooms may not sound like fun, and at times it wasn't, but for the most part it was pretty easy. We only had to "click-in" to our restrooms every hour and a half, and most of the time during non-super busy times (most of the time except a couple weeks of spring break/Easter) there was only light maintenance that needed to be done; sweeping the floor, stocking paper towels/toilet paper/soap. So I was out of there within minutes. Then I just kind of hung around backstage for a couple minutes before going back. The nicest part was that you probably had the most freedom in that role. Besides clicking in to your restroom, they weren't too concerned with where you were. And working streets was even better, because there was no clicking in. Just 2-3 trash pulls and sweeping up randomly around your area. We had lots of time to do stuff like learn to make mickey and other characters using a pan full of water and our broom as a paint brush. I had a lot more fun doing custodial than I could have thought, and worked with some of the best people I've ever met. I sincerely miss it, though I never in a million years could have thought I'd miss something like custodial.

I worked Custodial and absolutely LOVED it.

I won't lie, there is work involved. I like keeping busy, so I actually liked the cleaning, but I know some of my co-workers were less enthused. Yes, there are trash runs and bussing tables, restrooms and code Vs; but once you get through the first week it becomes second nature and you hardly even think about doing it. You'll see some crazy things in restrooms and on streets, but through all the weird things I've dealt with, I always look back and laugh.

What I really loved about Custodial was the freedom and the guest interaction. There is SO much guest interaction- I spent so much of my time just pin trading, giving directions, pre-parade games, making water mickeys, learning about where people came from and why they were here. I met a lot of really interesting people, and made a lot of people smile.

I know I'm really just repeating what smkohn already said, but it truly is a fun role!

I did custodial in 2007. I worked World Showcase in Epcot, and LOVED it. The people were great, and it was really laid-back there. Plus, I loved working the special events (Encore, Sounds Like Summer, ect). I was in restrooms more then Streets, and split the time between opening and closing. The best part about opening was that WS didn't open until 11am, so we had lots of time to get ready to open.

Thanks for posting. I start my DCP on the 14th and I'm doing Custodial so its nice to hear other peoples experiences with it. :)

Congrats :thumbsup2 I'm sure you will have a blast. Do you have a certain location you want to work in? I went down hoping that I would be in Epcot somewhere, and was so happy when I found out I would be working there.
