Experiences getting rooms switched onboard?

Our last 3 cruises on the fantasy (October, January, April) were GTY. I sent an email to DCL requesting our favorite server and that our cabin be forward and on a high floor. I always got a curt email back saying I am GTY and have no say in my cabin. All 3 cruises we got a forward cabin on a high floor. Can’t be a coincidence - someone is reading the emails and noting the cabin preference. Maybe try doing the same if you book GTY again.

Guaranty booking. You don't select a room, just a type (or, possibly, a category). DCL then assigns the room.

And you get a decent discount for letting Disney choose the stateroom.

I'm not sure how "decent" it may be. The lower cost for a last minute booking (*GT) is pretty good. But, if there's a discount for booking a regular GTY (you select category of room) it's usually not as good.

You know you booked taking a chance, so I get that. We've been in the same position. And were fortunate enough to be able to change cabins on board the Wish from an OGT rate--went straight to GS (they weren't doing upgrades at the port desk) and asked VERY NICELY if there was anything to upgrade to, conceding that we knew we booked a restricted rate and were aware that they were under no obligation to change anything. Had 1 cabin available offered for a paid upgrade and took it, being very grateful to the GS lady.
(Specifically, we were originally placed in an oceanview on deck 2 on the Wish, close to kids club-- turns out the cabin would have been fine-- it had some noise barriers between the room and kids' club, but we enjoyed our upgraded room on a different deck.)
I actually like deck 2 on the Magic and Wonder, but agree with you that taking chances for a room assignment can get you under the galley. If you can pay regular rate and select rooms like under GS or PA desk, those are I'm sure quieter.

We've only had to switch rooms once, on the Fantasy. We had a horrible rattle in our room from one of the ceiling panels (we were aft so there was a lot of vibration). We mentioned it to the host who tried to get it fixed, but it persisted. We did not ask to be moved, but he did ask if the noise had abated and we told him it had not. They then offered to move us which we took them up on!

I know this is the internet, just to be sure, you're complaining that a stateroom you've never slept in, which you're not even sure will be the one assigned to you as you haven't boarded the ship yet, is not of your liking because of the noise you read previous guests reported?

Not trying to blame you or anything, we all know planning a Disney vacation can be stressful, maybe even more on DCL, but maybe you should relax and see how it's going for you. Supposing you really get this stateroom (it can always change on the last minute, GTY or not) you don't know if previous complains are still relevant. Some noise come and go as the ship go to dry docks and things get moved, adjusted, updated. And maybe this room was still available (hence assigned to you) because nobody wanted to take the chance.

On the last resort if somethings goes wrong, you go still to Guest Services and tell them you don't enjoy your cruise, and tell them why. They'll hear what you have to say, and do their best.

I’ve mostly booked GT. The worst room I had was one I picked.

The worst room we had was one we got upgraded to (not by request). I've read reviews on some of the rooms we've had which were by the elevators that said it was noisy but we didn't find it noisy at all. We were also told that there were vibrations and noise on the Fantasy in the room we had the last time we sailed on her but never really felt or heard anything. We've just found that it's really hard to rely on prior reviews.

That's a good idea, but in my case making more noise would be worse for my ears. I don't need an upgrade, just something different, even lower category would be fine. The cruise is far from sold out. I appreciate the suggestion

Is it possible to book a disney bus transfer to port? Then you can get to port early to request the upgrade and your PAT won’t matter.

Yes, agree it must be a GT rate, since with GTY you can always just rebook a different room category and pay prevailing rates just like any other room (have done so many times).

I'm guessing that's their standard reply: that they can't guarantee everything, so just saying you have no say sets expectations. But yes, seems like someone is reading those and making a note to give you that location (assuming it's available).

Some noise come and go as the ship go to dry docks and things get moved, adjusted, updated.

The engine under the room isn't going to move, and the restaurant galley above the room isn't going to move.

On one cruise on the Magic we had a verandah room, a great location, but all night there was a weird crackling and flapping noise. On another cruise, we were on deck 5 inside forward rooms and the noise during the shows was insane, but after 10 pm and all day, it was peaceful.

The older ships can crackle and pop you really feel like you're at sea. The Fantasy has some vibration issues in the AFT. The worst room I had was midship deck 6 on the Wonder. The engine noise was annoying.

Reading the reviews is helpful, but what annoys one person may not annoy another. I can't say any room has ever ruined a cruise, but I've had neighbors that almost have.

Just remember the walls aren't that thick and if you are drunk and loud at 2 am the people next door can hear your conversations.

Booking a GT rate had ever adversely affected my cruise. If I was that picky I wouldn't go that route.
