Experience with Spirit anyone?

We used them for President's week this year from DTW. Perfectly reasonable airline---the plane was a bit older than most of NWA's stock, but clean and serviceable. No complaints, good price.

We always fly down on Spirit. We live 15 minutes away from the Airport and it is very convenient for us. We have never had any delays or problems. The planes are old, but I heard that they are purchasing new planes this year.

I've not flown them, but my cousin flew from PVD to RSW last week, (and is coming home tomorrow).

She said that both the gate staff and flight crew were phenomenal. She was a 'special needs' passenger. See, my cousin is profoundly deaf, and was travelling with her daughter, and her 5 year old autistic son. She said they could not have been more helpful or accomodating.

That review alone would make me fly with them in a heartbeat.

I'm MickeyMouth's neighbor (one island closer to the airport) and I totally agree, Spirit is just fine. They're actually one of the only airlines last year to show a profit, so they must be doing something right. I've used them for years, starting back when I lived in Cleveland and they used to fly from Cleveland to Atlantic City. I've grown accustomed to the planes leaving a few minutes late, but that's been no big deal to me. At least here on the ACY side, it's great to use Spirit because ACY is so underutilized that there's usually hardly any wait at Security.

We fly them all the time--we've found them to be consistent and timely. I loved the 3 - 2 seating, only now they're phasing in new planes with 3 - 3 seating. Oh well...

We've never had a whisper of trouble with them, and their ticket change fees are much lower than standard carriers - $25 MAY be assesed, but it's usually be waived for me when I change a ticket at least a few months before we were going to fly.

Now I just wish they had a loyalty program!!!

Their policies on non-refundable tickets explicitly state this---from their website:
Non-refundable fares
Changes subject to $25 change fee per customer plus any difference in fare
Changes made online outside 30 days of departure subject to difference in fare only
Cancellations result in issuance of travel vouchers per customer
In other words, if your changes happen more than 30 days from depature, there is no fee. Less than 30 days, they charge $25.

We flew them once round trip from Detroit. Going down was no problem; coming back they had mechanical problems and we were stuck in MCO for hours with no useful information from the Spirit employees. They were perfectly nice, but kept saying "anytime" which translated into about a 6 or 7 hour delay. We got into Detroit much later than scheduled and had to then drive to East Lansing. Price was fine. No airline is perfect. I wouldn't not use them again, but we chose to drive to Detroit to fly to MCO to avoid the usual NWA delays when flying out of Lansing. It wasn't worth the road time even though the flight was less expensive.

we flew them during christmas/new years and they are just fine. on one side the seating is 2 seats and on the other side is 3 seats. we sat in the 2 seats. the plane is small and if you are flying coach you do not get a snack, just pop, water, etc. you can purchase a snack pack for $4 or 5 dollars. we decided to stay a little longer so i called spirit and they found the same fare flight back at what we paid and i was only charge $25 a ticket to change my flight and no extra fare charge. :goodvibes
the day before we were to fly home, the airports were closed because a snow storm that effect several cities. i new the day we were to fly a lot of people would be bumped, i call spirit and asked if i could give up our seats and fly home a few days later and after being put on hold a few times , we were once again exstending our vacation , this time no charge at all not even a change fee. when we arrived at the aiport finally, i asked to upgrade us to the first class for a small fee and it was well worth the small fee. we were treated so nicely, we were offered so many snacks, drinks, magazines, we could not get rid of the flight attendant, lol :rotfl: i would fly them again and cross my fingers to have availablity for first class again. i do have to say our plane was delayed 2 hours because they were waiting for another plane that had 4 people that was connecting onto our plane, that was dissappointing.
next time i wouldnt fly home the last flight out. flying to mco we flew the first flight out and the plane was already there when we got to the airport 2 1/2 hours before our flight.

I fly them occasionally out of DTW on the MD 80s (3/2 seating) I have flown them to Denver (they no longer fly there as of last Sept.) and MCO. I am using them for my June trip to MCO. I usually fly SWA but SPIRIT was cheaper this time.

They are NO frills and they mean it. Staff is generally ok. We did run into a surly gate agent once in Denver.

In DTW, they are using the OLD SMITH terminal and it is awful.

My parents fly Spirit out of Atlantic City all the time and my mom loves it. She says its the only airport she feels comfortable in.
We would have flown them this trip but they didn't have flights for the times we wanted. I wish they'd do more flights per day from AC to Orlando.

i have flown spirit for my last 6 orlando vacations..............

at this point to fly from ohare to orlando, the rates are way too high.
even air tran and ted are cheaper than they are.

i have such loyalty to spirit............but unless their rates come down, i will have to go to the other side and book with another airline.

My family used Spirit last Thanksgiving and it was GREAT! The plane departed on time each way. We love the AC airport, much better than PHL. Using Spirit again this November.

We flew with Spirit, out of Atlantic City, for the first time, last year. It was great! We loved the smaller airport, so much nicer and easier to get in and out of, than Philly.

We will be flying with them, again, in December.

I would pay more, well, within reason, to fly out of AC.

Parking is a lot cheaper too.

wdwstar-how much was the upgrade to first class?
it's about a $50 difference in the tix i bought. is it less
at the gate?
thanks-

I forgot to mention this in my post. Try real hard not to get a seat towards the back of the plane. I had to use the restroom, which is in the back. The engine noise was really loud back there. I'm so glad we weren't sitting back there. I felt sorry for the people who were.

For a two hour flight, I wouldn't waste the money on upgrading to first class, unless they offered it for free (which happened a couple years ago on USAirways! I just asked, nicely, at the check-in desk at the gate.)

I've flown Spirit out of Atlanitc City many times, and I've never had any problems with them. With only one excption, they've always been on time. They are no-frills, but convenient and hassle free. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend them to anyone!

Hi Debi,

Thanks for the update. Two questions, what was the one exception?

2 Are you scottish? I know there are some Scottish Dance schools in southern jersey.

Thanks

Patricia

Flew Spirt out of Laguardia for the first time in April last year (Spring break). Flights were on time, attendants were very professional and curteous. Planes are older but no real problem. Sit in the front of the plane if engine noise is a problem for you(no different from any other airline).

I've booked them again for my trip in July. $125.00 rt, certainly can't beat that. Just picked my seats today.

If you're looking for an economical airline and good service Spirit is the way to go.

Good luck with your travel plans.

i have been searching for lower fares than spirit these past two weeks.
i have always used spirit from chgo to orlando but since mid april, spirit is higher than ted !!!!!!

just found yesterday that spirit lowered their fares by $52 for the dates i want.
woo hoo...............
