Has anyone had this done??

If so, what was your experience like? My husband is having it done tomorrow andI was wondering if I need to go with him tomorrow morning to drive him home or to work, I know its not going to paralyze him or anything like a regular epidural, but I've read both ways online-he needs a ride home, and he won't need a ride home. The doctor didn't mention either way so we are assuming no, and the office is closed for the evening and the appointment is first thing in the morning.

If anyone wants to share their experience I'd appreciate it!!

I had that done in my cervical area. It was THE MOST painful procedure I have EVER had done. 100 times worse than a baby epidural. Go with him, he will need you to drive home.

Everyone reacts differently. My family member had it done for his lower back and did fine. I am no baby with pain either, and it was HORRIBLE.

Is this for pain in the back, leg, hips on the S or L spots?

If it is the same type of thing, they would not let my dh drive home.

I know my dh had to rest the day off otherwise he paid for that in more pain in the days following.

I suppose it depends where he is getting the injection, how many and how much pain he is already in right now.

I would most certainly go with him and drive him places if he must go to work. At least plan for that and if the doctor tells you different then you are off the hook.

He is getting it for back pain-I'm not sure where they are putting it, he was in a car accident in september and has herniated disks from it, except they are spread from the neck, mid back and lower back so he is in total back pain all the time... the pain is to the point he couldn't carry a handle basket at the supermarket tonight, and the basket only had a bag of sugar, 2 steaks, a jar of salad dressing, bag of salad and 2 potatoes...

I was planning to just end up going even though they didn't mention it-especially after the stuff I've been reading, and hey if it goes fine, we can grab a quick breakfast togther.

OK, DO NOT let him drive, trust me. It is not good for him to do so. I am surprised they did not tell you that he will be unable to drive after the procedure. It is not so much that he can't it is that they do not want them to.

My dh has had the procedure several times. It took him 2yrs to FINALLY get well from his back problems.

It is when he started physical therapy plus the injections that he finally got well.

Good Luck on your journey.:goodvibes

I did all of the above and never got well. I needed surgery.

Good luck to your husband. It is very, very painful. They usually go below the herniation, insert the epidural there and thread the catheter up to inject the medicine. It is much worse than an epidural when you are pg because of the herniations. I would rather have a c-section with no epidural than ever go through this kind of epidural again. That is how painful it is. Sorry. I hope he gets well sooner than later.

Thanks yall! I appreciate the good wishes and so does he.

We have our fingers crossed that this will help, it's been months of struggling because of it, and the lady who hit him said "woops I didn't see you I wasn't paying attention" uggghhh. I wish she was paying attention instead of rushing to work that morning, this could have been avoided! The doctor said if 3 sets of the cortisone doesn't work surgery is the next option.:headache:

I had an epidural with cortisone for back pain last year. The only thing that hurt was the lidocaine shot to numb the site. The pain specialist who did my injection is the guy who trains other docs to do the procedure and actually invented one of the methods.

DH drove me home because I couldn't drive THERE.

The shot wore off after 2 weeks and I required surgery to correct the massive herniation.

DH gets the and they really help him. He goes to a pain management group who don't believe in causing MORE pain to get someone out of pain, and they use heavy sedation for the epidurals. DH goes to sleep, gets the epidural, and waks up in the recovery room. He's awake enough to walk to the car, but no way could he drive after sedation. He also gets the standard, "Don't make any important decisions" speech too.

I hope your DH gets relief. Sometimes it takes a series of 3 to get relief, so don't be discouraged if the first one seems not to work. It's a cumulative effect.

My family member has had this done and it works for him, although he needs the 3 epidurals per year to handle the constant pain. He really needs surgery, but he is trying to buy himself time. He is also in minimal pain from the procedure, but it is for his back.

Mine was for my neck and it was horrible. I wish someone had told me, that is why I am telling my experience to the OP. I drove to and from, and believe me, I shouldn't have driven back home I was such a wreck from pain.

He gave me as much lidocaine as he could and I still felt the procedure. My family member says he never feels it. My herniations were much worse though, so maybe that is why.

The Dr. said he couldn't put me to sleep because he had to know if I was feeling pain in my legs, i.e. he hit a nerve, and he wouldn't know that if I was sedated.

Surgery was my best option and I am so glad I got it done.

Good luck to your husband OP. It is a hard road. I wish you all well.
