Expensive mistake - learn from my lesson UPDATE

:sad1: How psyched I was when I booked a trip for my family via SWA June 23 to July 3. I had to play the DING game a few times. Finally got everyone on 100 rt tickets and then decided to fly my daughter and myself to MCO earlier -even posted about the rental car charge increase.
Well, tonight as we pulled into the Chinese restaurant, my daughter said, mommy, I looked at the thing you sent me and it says we're departing from Orlando on the 23rd.....We live in Rhode Island. After a frantic call to SWA and a frantic drive home...I changed to reservation to the correct order for a lovely additional charge of 380.00 I just paid more for the correction in my ticket than I am paying to fly my husband, son and mom combined. And the chance of a DING now are slim to none. Learn from my mistake - check and recheck (and if you'll excuse my sour grapes, it S^cks that SWA doesn't list the flights on the payment page just the passenger names). I've always been paranoid that I'd have the wrong date or month or place. The agent said it's a very, very common error....

This is just awful and acknowledgement from SW makes me even more frustrated (they know how many mistakes yet don't "fix" it??)
I hope you get some good DINGS.
But did you consider calling customer service at SW, not the reservationists. They have much more access available to them and I found them to go above and beyond in helping us out. I think it is worth a try. You just never know and MAYBE they'll help you out and then just let you have some credit for future travel. They get their money either way. I really think it is worth a shot!
Either way, good luck to you!!!!

Calling SW customer service is a great idea. I've also heard that they are the ones to call if you get a Ding and you want a refund on your credit card rather than credit for future flights, so they just might be able to help out. It's worth a shot! Does anyone have their number? (The customer service number, not the reservations line.)

I believe it is 214-792-4223, m-f, 8-5 central time. Good Luck!

ILoveMyDVC - I have made mistakes like that as well, and both times the airlines fixed them for me without charging a fee (it was not SW, though). We are flying from PVD on June 23 to WDW as well - which flight are you on? We are leaving at 4:50 PM. Maybe we'll see you at Green!!

Good luck!
Denise

I came really close to do this also, I'm so used to checking for a round trip that it was habit to select MCI first on our return trip. Luckily I caught it in time but then I was so paranoid I hit the back button twice to be sure I was booking it correctly! It's so nerve wracking! I'm glad your daughter noticed it so quickly though, can you imagine if you got to the airport with the wrong tickets! :scared1:

Denise -
We are flying at 6:50 a.m. and the rest of the family is going at 7:00 p.m. Where are you staying?

If my daughter didn't notice, I would have found out at EXACTLY ay 6:35 a.m. the day before departure when I tried to print out my boarding passes. If the flights had been booked or in the $500 ea. range, we would have probably jumped in my little red car by 9:00 a.m :rotfl: .....I've always wanted to drive down.
PVD - MCO fare has actually gone up since last night. I'm not expecting another 100 rt but I haven't paid more than 200 per ticket to MCO in 10 years :headache:

Thank you. I will give them a call but am not hopeful. The reservation's agent indicated that the CS department does not offer assistance with this type of matter. It wasn't SWA's fault: It was mine.

The agent said it's a very, very common error.

Then shame on SWA! If this is a common error, that should tell them that they need to revise their online booking system so this stops happening.

similar happened to me, a few days ago i checked our ressies and noticed my daughter, age 2 (flying on an award ticket), was on the wrong flight! i'm glad it was an award so i didn't have to pay anything to change it.

hopefully you'll get a ding!

omg-i can see that happening-you get so excited to get the ding you are typing so fast....and i didnt realize they were charging for changes now

Hi, I don't think SWA is charging for changes now. I think the OP meant that when she went to make the changes to the correct flights, the fares were much higher now than they were when she originally booked, especially if it was a Ding.

I remember frantically trying to book a Ding, not believing my luck, such a low fare and gosh, how did that desirable return flight time pop up when it had been previously booked solid for weeks... and then I noticed... it was Cleveland! Not Chicago! But luckily I caught it in time.

Good luck, OP! Here's hoping for a Ding for ya! :wizard:

Glad it worked out for you!

I had the same thing happen once - except it was the return!

DD and I showed up at the airport and I couldn't understand why I didn't see my flight number listed. Closer examination revealed that during one of my MANY changes, I had booked us BDL-MCO to return home instead of MCO-BDL. THis was further complicated by the fact that I was just flying her home so she could go to school and I was returning BDL-MCO THAT night and then Flying MCO-BDL the next day with DH! I was shaking with panic as I went to the ticket agent and explained that I had booked it backwards. Very, very luckily for us, the plane that morning was empty, the same "class of service" (letter code by the fare you book) was open, so she changed it for no charge emphasizing that it was very rare an opening like this would happen that would allow her to change it for no fee. I was SOOOO grateful!

I now try to read all the flight aloud to my husband the night before we leave. plus neurotically check them numerous times before our trip :rotfl2:
