Ok, I will not complian about how expensive Disney food is.

My DD went to SixFlags over GA today and spent $40 for: 4 slices of pizza, a coke and a water!

It is 5 pm central time and they are on their way home so that didnt even include dinner.

At Disney-

the CS plan at $35/day- she could have gotten: 2 counter service meals with drink and desert, 2 snacks, and a refillable mug

the basic DP at $46/day- 1 counter service meal with drink and desert, 1 table service with entree, desert and drink and 1 snack

SO.... GEEZ!!!! Guess all of us Disney food lovers should be thankful!

Yeah, we have season passes to Six Flags St. Louis...we usually take our own food....Disney's CS places aren't too unreasonable in comparison...when DH and I DID buy food at Six Flags...it was Approximately $30 for 2 hamburger combo meals....and they weren't that big...we had DS6 sharing with us and every bite got eaten!

I am sorry but how is that possible. If pizza was $6 a slice, coke was $5 and water was $5, which is hard to believe, it would still only be $34???

Oh I know what the OP is talking about! My family of 4 went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg 2 days ago and we spent almost $60 for lunch. My DH and I even shared a meal:eek: I have to say it was very good though.

Where did you come up with those numbers??? Pizza was probably more like $8 anyway.

OP, I hear ya...whenever we go to King's Island we ALWAYS eat outside the park. Way too expensive for a family of 4 to eat there.

We do know how expensive other parks' food can be, really!
BUT the thing about the Disney dining plans is that it's not that simple....
Disney requires you to have a package deal in order to utilize any of the plans. So if you don't want park tickets, or the package, you are out of luck and end up paying oop, which until recently, actually cost us less. Now that their food prices on everything has soared, it's getting harder and harder to feed a family oop.

Example: In another thread I mentioned that we recently ate at Artist Point: salmon=$48 (for one entree)

Ex: Grand Floridian Cafe Breakfast: Cheese omelette and hash browns=$10.50 plus tax. Ok, fair enough for TS, but did not include a side of toast. How expensive are 2 pcs. of toast for Disney to include?

Ex: Goofy's Candy Company: chocolate chip cookie=$5.28 including tax.

Yes, there are still a lot of meals Disney offers that are plentiful, good, and somewhat reasonably priced, but for sure, we see a lot creeping up there!

Food in general has skyrocketed and I know that companies and restaurants need to pass that along somehow, but there is definitely a saturation point that consumers reach of too expensive, Disney or other entertainment venues.

Know I've already said it, but we have season passes to six flags, and they came with a free season parking pass...that said, we expect it to be "cheap" to go to Six Flags....we don't buy extras and we have the refillable coke cups that we take with us and pay just $1 for refills. Then, for a family of 4..rather than spending about $60-$70 for us each to have a mediocre, unhealthy meal, we spend about $20 at the store and have various drinks, fruits, lunch meat and cheeses...SOOOO much better than the park food, and 1/3 the price!

I'm starting to think this is the way to go, even at Disney...You may be seeing me tote my big ol' cooler around soon :) Maybe that's why we're seeing more and more of them in the parks. :rolleyes1

Yeah, definitely cheaper...however, I wouldn't do this at Disney, just because this is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime vacation for us, so we're splurging with the Regular Dining Plan...but for going to Six Flags for one day...it works! We keep the cooler in the car, as it is not allowed in, and just head to the car, fire up the air conditioner and eat! Also, we usually will pay for the upgraded parking, so we don't have to walk far!

That's what DW and I say all the time.

We go to our local Six Flags park just about every weekend during its six-month operating season. But we almost never eat there.

The food is not only much more expensive ($12.99 for a burger and fries this year!), it's also of much poorer quality than Disney's.

Six Flags over GA is ridiculous for food prices. I'm not surprised you spent so much.

And the food is just awful. Add in that my DD11 has said she is scared of roller coaster now and we have decided not to bother going there this summer. Usually we do one day trip every summer just for something different to do.

We spent $90 today for lunch at Bucca de Bepo. More expensive than Disney for sure. We stay away from the soda at Disney and bring in water bottles. I think that saves a ton. Our local ball park is as spendy as Disney. I don't find Disney's CS meals pricey at all.

We have season passes for local Six Flags as well. Took the girls there yesterday + each brought a friend. 1 friend brought her own bag lunch & I brought some light snacks. We also have the $0.99 refillable cups. Of course they were still hungry.

So for 1 burger/fries, 1 slice cheese pizza, 1 chix tenders (3 pieces)/fries it was a few pennies under $30. It was something to eat, but that was about it.

So even though I feel like I spend too much on Disney food, I will appreciate it more this year after just a few "meals" at Six Flags this summer.

"Pizza was probably more like $8 anyway" A slice???? I just could never bring myself to pay $8 for a slice of pizza, much less order 4. Is this really true?

Agree! Also have season passes to our local Six Flags. We try to eat a decent breakfast before we go, and then we leave when we are starving. We stop at a fast food place on the way home and order off the dollar menu...well, I did splurge for an iced coffee at McD for a whopping $1.89!

We'll never eat at the Flags!

Makes Disney CS meals look like a bargain and a fine culinary experience!;)

Six Flags is crazy expensive. Last time I went to the one here in GA (a few years ago) I paid $12 for a hamburger, fries and drink. And it wasn't that good!

I still think the WDW dining plan is a rip-off and come out cheaper without it, though.

Thats crazy! But I know what you mean, I went to Cedar Point and they have a Subway there, I got the 6 inch cold cut combo, which includes chips and pop, here in Michigan I would pay $4 and some change for the combo but at Cedar Point it was $12 :scared1:

For some of you.... I didnt mean to start a debate. I realize that the dining plans come with a package and I didnt account for that in the package. And I also agree that the dinning plans arent quite the value that they used to be. But I was intending to compare just the cost of the food.

I also agree that I most likely will not be buying the dining plan in the future either and will be either using TiW or eating at our DVC resort.

So... thanks to all of you who replied and felt my "park food pain".

And $40 for food... yes, I do think my vegetarian daughter over the course of a day would eat 4 slices of cheese pizza.

In 2009, I paid $27 for a slice of pizza, ham&cheese sandwich and 3 sodas at the grab & go place at Coronado Springs Resort. It was $9.75 for the pizza. (I found this on an old trip report) So your DD would have paid ~$44 plus tax for the same meal at Disney...two years ago.

Another thing with the food prices/quality in some place like 6 Flags vs Disney is that Disney is a vacation destination. A lot of people go for several days not just one (maybe 2 days). So Disney guests will be paying the inflated theme park captive audience prices for several days.
