what is this expedition everestt and when did it open? We are going jan 06 I hope its open it looks great...thanks

It will not open until this Spring, with April 22 the rumored date.

Expedition Everest is not open yet. Disney is giving Spring '06 as the opening date.

It's a rollercoaster. Here's a picture I took in early October.

This ride looks as if its going to be like a rollercoaster (obviously i know) but wonder if it will have loops or big drops. Can't wait to hear about it when it opens

There are no inversions, just drops, such as the 80ft drop already mentioned. It goes forward and backward during the ride, and it reaches speeds of 50mph (?)

It's scheduled to open in Spring '06. I heard a rumor about it opening on Earth Day.

I also heard that they'll be having some soft openings, where you can ride it, but it's not offically opened, during March. Check disneyworld.com for more info soon. I'm sure they'll be putting up info, since it's going to be such a huge ride.

When we were there last week, I asked a CM at Tarzan Rocks when she thought it might open. She raised one eyebrow and said, "This theater is coming down in January. You might expect when the theater comes down, the mountain would come up."

Now of course that's not a promise. But every time I asked, more and more CMs seems to point to earlier than April.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but if any of you own Lion King 1 1/2, in the 'bonus' section of the DVD there is a game where Timon designs a ride. The last part of the ride is Timon, Pumbaa, Timon's mom and Uncle Max in a roller-coaster type car going through a 'snow mountain' past a Yeti etc etc. You also get to choose whether you go forward or backward. We have played this for a while as DS loves it, and when we were in AK and saw the mountain going up and started to read here about the ride I thought 'Ah Hah' a little subliminal early advertising!

And I'm all for an early opening - we'll be there Feb 8-15 and I would LOVE a soft opening then

The cast members have been selected and will begin their training in a few weeks - from what i've read from other sites...

January - Testing & focus rides
February - Patch up and soft open
March - Preveiws
April - open!

Just speculation - but people have been seen riding it and final themeing is being put down!! so exciting can't wait to ride it on my July 2006 trip!

Do any of you think that this ride will be better then rock n roller coaster?

I personally think so. I think that this will be atleast 10 times better. As much as i love aerosmith and rock n roller coaster. I just think that Everest will be the best coaster that WDW have done.
