Okay, tell me about Expedition Everst! If everything goes as planned I will be at WDW with a couple of guys that like coasters. (Three work at Cedar Point, "The Roller Coast") I have a couple concerns about myself or the little guy riding this . . . Do you go down anything backwards? Are we talking about a thrill like RNR or a trill like Dino? Any advice would be helpful. I would rather get advice on here then advice from a 15 yo trying to get me to ride with him. They seem to be a little dishonest when it comes to trying to get me on a coaster. Maybe it's because if they were truthful I would be at the exit before they could say "chill". :rolleyes1

All we know for sure is that it's supposed to a mix between BTMRR and The Matterhorn in DL. Apparantly it's as tame as BTMRR as a ride, but there's some sort of an abominable snowman that you'll run face to face with at the same time. We shall soon see though.

Reports say it will open in April, but as Goofie4goofy said above, nothing official from Disney yet.

Czarina, you will probably have to wait until your 2007 trip to ride it.

Okay, the guys were already fibbing. They said it was going to be open early enough in 2006 that they were going to drag me on it. :cool1: I can bust their bubbles now!!!

Actually it might be open. The ride is already doing test runs, and while it is far from finished it is possible that they may be doing guest testing/soft openings in late January. When is your trip?

As for the ride itself. It is more intense than BTMR, but not as intense at Rn'RC. The ride will not go upside down. The top speed will be a little under 55 mph. Compare that to about 65 at RnRC and about 28 at BTMR. The ride will feature an 80-foot drop. The only part of the ride you go through backwards is a slight drop and an upward helix. You will encounter a Yeti during the ride.

If all goes as planned we will leave 1/21, so our first day at Disney will be 1/24. Our last day at Disney will be 2/2 as we will be leaving bright and early 2/3.

Then there is a chance that you may be able to ride. However the ride will not be open fully, and thus may open an close periodicaly through the day.

When we were there in May/June, it looked like there was still a lot of construction to be done. But then, we were looking at the outside from a distance, so there was no way of knowing what was structural and what was cosmetic.

But, it just didn't look that close to being completed......

I did hear a rumor floating around that they wanted the official opening to be on Earth Day (think that's April 22nd) That's the same date that AK itself officially opened. I would imagine that there will be a lot of preview runs beforehand however. January might be a little early though, fingers crossed for you (or maybe not!!)

Earth Day is the target date. However remember that Mission: Space's official opening date was October 1, yet they started running previews at the end of May. That is a good four months before the attraction "opened." Thus the end of January is actually very possible as it is only about 3 months before "opening."

Looking forward to riding in 2006  :Pinkbounc

Whatever the opening date will be, Disney will be doing the "soft" opening a few months before that. We read on these boards about Mission: Space and were able to ride it every evening the week we were there about 3 1/2 months before it officially opened. If they follow the same procedure the area will be closed during the day and open later on. I understand they ask guests their opinions but no one asked us for our week's worth of riding Mission: Space.
Keep checking these boards. No doubt the second they start soft openings it will be posted here.

I don't know as to how 'tame' it's going to be. It didin't look so tame a few weeks ago. Someone here has some great photos of it in a thread. Check those out. I love RnRC and BTMRR and this one looks to be really something. But, I am happy about no flips, but since it's not in the dark, well.. being able to see where I'm going is sometimes a problem for me!!!

Here are some pictures I took last Monday.
