Expedition Everest

While at Animal Kingdom in May 2004 we noticed a new ride being built, called Expedition Everest. Does anyone know when it will be ready?

It is supposed to open Spring of 2006. Can,t wait. This has been a long anticipated ride.

We are keeping our fingers crossed,that it will be up and operating by April 15th .....the rides looks SOOOO awesome!

Wow. I guess I just never realized how long it actually takes to build one of Disney's attractions. This whole Everest thing is really impressive.

For some reason, it seems to take Disney longer. They are opening a new attraction called Soarin' that is attached to The Land in EPCOT. It is supposed to be open by May 15 for the celebration of 50th anniversary of DisneyLand.
That may be why the one in AK is taking so long. We live Cedar Point, and they put up monster roller coasters in less than a year, even on Lake Erie.

What I'm realloy looking forward to is a ride like Tokyo Disney Sea's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

True. It does take them longer but Look at the difference between Everest and that 300 ft tall coaster (not sure of its name but I gotta ride it sometime. ) there at Cedar Point. Everest has a major "show" of sorts to put on during the ride that has to be built into it as well as the landscaping for the ride itself and theme for the possible Everest store at the exit of the ride. This isnt going to be a bunch of pipes that get laid for a simple coaster. This is one mammoth project.

Is there a drawing of the completed attraction anywhere? It does look impressive from that picture, though. It also looks like there will be shops and other attractions associated with the coaster.

It is so awesome that guests have been able to watch the progress of Expedition Everest from its inception. This is the 1st Disney attraction that guests have actually been able to see while being constructed.

As GoofyDad said, Disney attractions are SO much more than a coaster. Most steel rail coasters can go up in less than 6 months, but they don't weave in and out of man made mountains, have elaborate storylines or all of the surrounding archetecture that makes it special.

Disney adds so much more than the standard thrill ride. The landscaping, scenery,etc. All of the theme parks within a days ride of my hometown can not compare with the "give it their all" attitude of Disney.

Thanks for the updated pic. I took some in October when we were there. It really is fascinating to be able to watch one go up. I would rather Disney take longer and do it right, than have anything happen after it is open. We'll all be anxious for it to open.

In a way, this is Disneys answer to ROTM @ Universal which right now is the greatest roller coaster on earth. Can EE top it, my opinion will not come until spring '06.

At the latest EE will be opening on April 22, 2006. That will also be AK's 8th birthday as well as Earth Day.
