During my March visit and today, the single rider line to meet the Yeti has been posted "Not Available". Is this a forever more thing? I really am a single rider and I miss the ride!
Even if the single rider line is closed, you can still ride. You just get in the regular line with everyone else. When you get near the loading area, you simply tell them you're a party of one.
I find just holding up one finger is works very well.
Actually, holding up fingers works very well for any group under 11. I find this generally much more effective than trying to shout over the noise. CM's don't always hear well, none I've encountered have had trouble counting fingers.
We used it last week several times during two days, but at one point later at night they had it closed. The line was over 20 minutes too so we skipped it, but I can say it is not altogether gone.

Actually we got in line at first and where we were at compared to other times, decided it probably was accurate and left. We rode 11 times in 2 days so we were okay with that

I getcha. Still, they do that toward closing time, you know, to move people along. It's a little bit of a trick, but I get that the cast members do want to go home eventually. I won't play their game though.
