Expedition Everest Challenge Trekkers

My thoughts are that a 3 hour party after the race with only a limited amount of attractions open (I think Dinoland, Kali and EE), may get a bit stale.

Then again, I have never been to AK at nite, plus the added "party" atmosphere after the Race might be kinda cool, so I might end up being the last one to be dragged out at midnite! LOL

In any event, I will still definitely be heading to the Adventurer's Club immediately afterwards. I am sure it will be packed. It will be open til at least 1am, but my guess is it may well be open much later on this very last nite. I am sure PI in general is going to be P-A-C-K-E-D!!!!

I did a search for words that follow the sequence of _ _ N _ R. This is what it came back with:

Your search for --n-r matched 26 words in this word list

boner (hee hee!)
caner
denar
dinar
diner
donor
finer
goner (what we will all be if we don't drink up?)
honer
honor
inner
liner
loner
lunar
manor
miner
minor
owner
saner (what we will be when done?)
senor
sonar ("thirst" as in bats?) (hmmm...I also found this definition: a method or device for detecting and locating objects especially underwater by means of sound waves sent out to be reflected by the objects; also : a device for detecting the presence of a vessel (as a submarine) by the sound it emits in water)
tenor
toner
tuner
ulnar
zoner

Your guess is as good as mine! I am also going it solo, so please be kind if I look lost and confused!:confused3

I have already packed my WISH shirt in my suitcase!! Can't wait to go!

Becky

ME TOO! And I also packed 2 extra ones for my son to choose from. Unlike my younger children, he has no problems wearing a WISH shirt. :thumbsup2

Hey Jeanne, I wish I had a shirt small enough for my DD to wear. She is tiny! She isn't doing this race with me, but will be doing the 5k in january. I may cut one of mine up to make her her own ;)

Becky

They did say they would be posting those today, right? I think it would probably be better to post the instructions, and then send out a mass email, rather than say "final instructions will be posted today" and drive me crazy in anticipation.

<deep, cleansing breath>

So, how is everyone?

Chris

Hey Chris - thought it was just me. Checked again 10 min ago and am like "What the heck?! Going to wait until midnight? ARGH!"

Ok, better now. 18 days until EEC!

ROFL
Post the final instructions already!
They are killing me! :rotfl2:

Oh BTW since we are staying at AKL DH and I thought we could do Boma for breakfast (edited, I meant breakfast, not dinner... ROFL) the day of the race, then have a light lunch, then a very small snack (energy bar) before the race.

What do you guys think? I run really badly with anything on my stomach, but I do good with an energy bar. Any suggestions from the seasoned runners?:goodvibes

Note to self: remember to pack an energy bar!

Well, I'm not a seasoned runner, but I'd say do whatever you're familiar with. It sounds like you already have a good idea what works for you.

I read once that you should stop eating 12 hours before a race (can't remember if it was specifically 5ks or other races too). So far that's been a pretty good rule of thumb for me, but I'm guessing it's meant to apply only to morning races.

For what it's worth, I'm planning on Earl of Sandwich for lunch on race day.

I'm planning on eating a fairly light dinner around 4p then grabbing a Marathon bar to eat while waiting for it to start. Little harder to figure out for eve race versus morning but thinking this will work for me.

Hmmmm a friend swears by cliff bars, where can you find marathoner's? Do they taste good? :)

Never eat a marathon bar while running! They are VERY chewy and you didn't carry enough water - heck a camel couldn't carry enough water - to wash it down.

If you are going to lower your food intake the day of the race, be sure to eat well the couple days prior to the race. I don't mean stuff yourself, I mean eat good food. Remember that you do not need more food before a race, just better food.

I usually struggle on my evening runs if I have not had enough food that day. DH and I will probably eat breakfast and lunch kind of early then have a midafternoon snack around 3pm. That gives me 4 hours to let my stomach settle. Then we will probably eat like ravenous dogs at the post race party because we missed dinner.

Sounds like a good plan. I am thinking I'll eat mostly protein with good carbs (whole wheat pasta or brown rice) the couple of days leading to the race. Right now I am mostly eating protein since my muscles are trying to keep up with me.

BTW... is it just me or they never updated the final instructions website? :surfweb:

I don't eat them while running but it's the last thing I eat before the event. Since I'm a walker instead of runner I don't get that bouncing food thing in my stomach (DH just takes GU right before a race).

BTW, they are made by Snickers and I get them at Walmart. Are very chewy.

And no, the instructions are still not there!

oops meant to say that the marathon bars are great when you aren't running. Just not WHILE running.

Final Race Instructions.....Come out, come out wherever you are.

The "Final Race Instructions" are the first item on the scavenger hunt. As long as I get them by the 27th, I'll be fine.

Maybe there is a special clue on the phrase: "Available Monday September 8"
Dun dun duuuun :rotfl:
