Expedition Everest Challenge Trekkers

I have been hearing about these dreaded "sweepers"

What are they? Do they remove you if you are not keeping up with the pace?:scared1:

Also, if we are set to go on groups, and you are in one of the first groups and end up arriving with the last group... will they sweep you?:scared: I am such a newbie!!!:rotfl2:

I am now confident I can keep the pace, but I am curious :rotfl:

Usually for the 5K, sweepers aren't seen much, unless you are just struggling and are WAYY off. Haven't heard of being swept at the 5K's. The time is based on when the last person crossed the start line for the "pace". Now for the Half and Full, people do and can get swept.

Thanks! Now I feel even better.
I had visions of somebody with a street sweeper machine chasing stragglers :scared: :rotfl2: I have a very hyper active imagination.

I am so excited!!! :cheer2:

That makes me feel much better too. I have to admit that I am a little worried about the pace. I am steady, just slow. I don't think that this is a case where slow and steady will win the race. :rotfl:I just want to finish it without being dead last!;)

As I recall, I believe one of our WISHers from the Minnie 5k in May was last to cross the finish line, or pretty close to it.

Her story was one of the most inspirational ones I have heard. Although I wasn't there to see her cross the line (and regret that now) I believe she received significant cheers and attention and felt it was one of the highlights of her life.

Our moto really says it all: "Dead Last Finish is better than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start".

All of us should be proud simply for showing up!:goodvibes

I feel better about the sweeper after reading that. Im almost at 16 so im hoping to be there. I also dont want to be dead last so i'll keep training even though we leave for the wdw and the DVC cruise on Thursday. What better place to train then at wdw. Im still freaked out about the obstacle course. I dont have a lot of upper body strength.

Just keep thinking positive, and remember once we are out there at AK we'll be so pumped up with excitement we might even go faster than on our usual run/walks thanks to adrenaline alone.

For some reason whenever I am at WDW I walk way faster and longer than anywhere in my own town :rotfl:

Added: I also hope it gets a wee bit cooler. The afternoons have been sorta muggy here in Tallahassee lately, that really packs a punch on my breathing and pacing outside. High humidity and running don't mix well.

Great way of thinking!
I won't mind if I am last as long as I can finish. Just the thought of finishing and getting my medal makes me so happy!

I am packing a post-race bag with bandages to compress my shins, biofreeze and advil. I want to be able to stay for the party and enjoy myself :rotfl:

I will definately be looking for everyone in the AK parking lot!! The group ride sounds like so much fun, but my family is not buying the party tickets. So I will be leaving right after I finish (they will be waiting for me in the parking lot). But I hope someone buys the picture and posts it online!

Sailor's Wife - Congratulations!!

Becky

Yay! I completed another 5K outside and my shins are wonderful!!!
I couldn't time it well since our stop watch got accidentally reset in the middle of the whole thing :headache:. Still I am doing pretty well, I wasn't even tired.

I am now officially so excited I might randomly burst out in song  :dance3:

Can anybody believe there is just one weekend left?
I signed up the first day it was available back in February  time has flown!!!

I'll post up the meet information again in case anyone missed it.

The idea of the before race meet is to join in wherever you like, or are able to. During the party, we'll meet and then all go on the ride at about 10:45. (I think the official ride pictures are only small groups, so we may need some other pictures taken!)

4:45-5:15 Meet in AKL lobby (since it seems a lot are staying there)
5:15-5:30 Bus to AK together
5:30-6:30 Moving meet starting near busses and moving to start corrals

10:30-10:40 Meet outside Everest to all go on a mass ride!

I'm excited--we're leaving in a week :woohoo:

I know I can't believe there is only 10 days till our expedition - its so exciting!! As far as a meet - me and DH will be staying at CSR and plan to drive over to AK for the start of the race. So I guess we will meet in the parking lot/start corrals. I don't think I will be wearing my WISH shirt because I will be with DH but I still have my pink hair in the back and DH has lots of earrings in his left ear (usually not hard to spot him) and I know I won't have any problem spotting the WISH team in lime green!!!

 Okay, I don't know about all of you, but I am so excited that I can't stand myself! I leave one week from today!!:cool1: I gotta pack...
Joy

I'll be wearing stitch ears :lmao:
Meet you guys at the AKL lobby!!

For those of you driving to WDW, I found an amazing website for the drive down. Check out travMatix - its free.

I can't believe its almost here! I hope my foot heals by next week!

Hey guys, sorry I have been out, but we had to evacuate for hurricane IKE.... We are back home and after a week we got power back yesterday. Needless to say I have not been running like I should, but being in Clear Lake Tx, with now power and little water, you don't want to run...... I hope to see you guys next week, we are also staying at AKL so I guess we'll see you in the lobby.

Dh was joking with the kids the other day as we were eating Spaghetti O's and soup that we cooked on the grill by the light of a lantern. Anyway he said you know guys after all of this I think we need a vacation.... the kids looked at him and said okay; things have been soooooo crazy they had forgotten we are leaving next week. So there is light at the end of the tunnel. See you at the race and remember, take it easy on us..
Julie
