Hey all! DH and his buddies signed up spur of the moment for this in May.

Has anyone around here done it before? Are you at an advantage if you know the park?

Is the after party worth it?

Dh and I did it, and I would recommend it. Knowing the park is a definite advantage when it comes to the scavenger hunt! I can't really speak as to the After Party because the year we did it, there was a torrential downpour and the party closed by the time DH and I finished the race. I would love to do it again with good weather.

My husband and I did it (on the torrential downpour year) and thought it was great fun. Knowing the park probably helped somewhat, although the rain prevented our scavenger hunt quiz from being counted. I would definitely do it again if the timing worked out for us. The theming of the event was a lot of fun with great cast member participation.

Also, I forgot to mention that Dave Parfitt has a great blog entry from the first year of the race. We took a look at that before we ran in the race. In fact, it is how we found the Disboards and the Podcast! I would take a look at the blog and see if you can find it.

Can anyone tell me if there's eating places open during the afterparty? Yak and Yeti? Rainforest Cafe?

Thanks!

I was wondering how the challenge was, is it a 5k then after you complete that you have a scavenger hunt? or is that part of the 5k? I just found out I would be down there during this and wanted to try it, but I am no good with games...or scavenger hunts. (would be doing it as a solo person)

My husband and I did it last year in June. You start with a 5k run with obstacles. There were about five obstacles spread throughout the course like walking on a balance beam, crawling under a net, etc. If you didn't want to do the obstacles you didn't have to, but it made it fun. Once you complete the 5k they gave you a clue and a flashlight to get you started on your scavenger hunt. I think there were 4-5 clues to finish and that lead you to the after party. Your time for the race includes both the 5k run and the scavenger hunt. It did help that we knew the park layout somewhat. Photographers were along the race taking pictures of the racers and then you can see yours online after the race. We had a good time although it was really hot even at 8:00 at night! Hope this helps and good luck!

:thumbsup2 It does thankx, What if you miss any of the questions on the scavenger hunt will you still get your medal?

They won't give you the next clue until you figure out the one you have. You have to solve the clue and go to that location. Once there the cast member will hand you the next clue. Not everyone will have the same clues so don't just follow the crowd. We didn't know what to expect and were able to figure out the system pretty easily.

I answered this before, but my post seems to have disappeared.:confused3

Anyway - I've done this event every year and it is the funnest Disney event I've participated in (and I ran every Disney race, including the 5k fun runs last year!)!! Everyone who crosses the finish line gets a medal, but the winner is the first person to cross the finish line with all of the scavenger hunt questions answered correctly. If you run a world record 5k time and only get 3 right, you don't win. If you're the last person to finish the 5k, but the only one with all of the questions right, you win!

Here's a picture of the medal:

And here's a video from an after-party
