They no longer seem to be offering the DLP hotel's without park tickets - I phoned and asked for a room only or B&B price and they said they are selling "packages only" for the Disney hotels - that's no good to me as I have an AP and don't need to pay for park tickets *sigh*

Yesterday on the website it was giving room only.....did they change it today? Or does it change when you go to pay for it?:confused3 oh wait a min...onsite hotels? Was there a big red cross through the onsite ones? I thought it meant they were sold out! What do we do now if we get APs do we have to stay off site...or am I confusing things?

or in other words....I want to buy an AP....where do I buy room only for an onsite hotel?

Have you tried phoning Disney Direct and saying you have an AP. We usually book room only that way now and even when Expedia were doing room only found it was cheaper thro Disney

can you book room only without the AP via disney?...as we haven't yet got ours as yet.

thank you x

It seems to be very unusual to be allowed to do so- you usually need the AP first. theres been a recent thread on this. We stayed off site last summer at Holiday Inn as we were buying APs but then have booked thro Disney for other trips quoting AP number and getting room only rate with discount for dream AP. We checked the price we were quoted for Cheyenne this coming Easter against Expedias room only price and it was quite a lot lower

I think you need your AP when you book the room as they ask for your AP number or something...

Dont take my word on that lol im no expert :lmao:

Thats a bit rubbish then...so we book 6 days say in santa fe..full package then have to buy an AP that time too?....I don't want to stay offsite if I can help it....looks like I'm not doing the AP thing ever!!!:rotfl:

Somewhere like Explorers and Holiday Inn (we've stayed at both and were happy with both) are very close you still sort of feel as tho you are on site. they are themed and have Disney shops in them. In fact they are higher standard than santa Fe for roughly the same cost

I think you can buy a AP over the phone thr the AP number, not sure what that is though. They do issue you a temp one which you have to exchange at the park. IS that right???

Do you have to have an AP to phone Disney direct and get a room only price? I know you can get discounts on the room only price if you have an AP, but that would suggest to me that there are room onlys available at a standard rate with Disney direct. Anyone tried that?

Elaine

Can you walk to the park from there? We don't do shuttle busses (too pushy) or hiring cars (might crash;) )

yes you actually said it better than me but this is what I meant!:rotfl:

They wont let you book room only without AP apart from DCR which anyone can book room only as the cost is for the cabin not per person.

Its definitely worth staying off site once to get AP - we have saved so much with it and definitely couldnt have done all the trips we have without it.

if you go at a quiet time you could book one night off site then hope you can get an onsite room once you have the AP. You are risking not being able to get anywhere though. I think some of the cheaper off site hotels have a cancellation policy where you dont pay until you leave and you can cancel up to 24hrs before. Im sure holiday Inn have diff rates and this is one option but you pay slightly more per night so you could book HI for few nights, arrive get AP, look into room only for later in stay, stay first night, at HI, then if youve managed to get room only on site cancel rest of nights and move hotel- check their website as it tells you different rates (you can even do it without breakfast which we found much better)

Its about another 5 minutes on from Santa Fe - across main road from garage. Elaine (Ware bears has walked it back to Explorers but we never attemped it)

So its do-able then?..the walk to and from Santa Fe is no problem so that might be an option...thank you so much!!!:thumbsup2

Back in october last year I tried to book room only at DCR through disney direct and both CM's I spoke to said I couldn't even though it quotes the room only price in the brouchure.
I went ahead and booked the full package and am now annoyed that I didn't persist as I really wanted AP's. Maybe next time!!!!

it's a shame not all the CMs are clued up on the whole room only/AP/booking procedures, as a lot of you have missed out. Maybe we should make some kind of petition or group complaint, saying some of us have missed out because not all CMs know the whole deal and use snippets from our threads as 'evidence'???

Anywho, we managed to book room only via expedia for april at santa fe as we intend to buy Dream APs when we go, i think we paid £248 for 2 nights for room only! That seems expensive to me, anyone booked room only in april before??
