'Expansion' is the Wrong Term for What's Happening at HS

This thread just proves to me some people are never going to be satisfied.

Were you the same person that complained that FLE wasn't adding anything because it was just finally replacing 20,000 leagues?

Closing the Jack Sparrow experience and One Man's Dream and the (already mostly closed) Backlot Tour and replacing it with Toy Story land?? Yeah, that's just awful.

But your right - a lot of what is being added is replacing existing space. But, it will be a better park for it than had everything been left the same. So that's what matters.

If you pull up the Google Earth view, it becomes apparent that the whole southern boundary can be pushed as far as the drainage canal, and all they'd have to do to accommodate that is move the inbound traffic to the parking lot just a bit further south.

Parking garages are very likely with incoming work

One Man's Dream (totally ridiculous if they don't find a home for this) -- hopefully this stays or they find a new home for it
Likely the artifacts would be moved to the Disney family museum as most of it is on loan from that location already. Walts office is already gone.

The fourth is already getting much needed work. The fourth will likely be better than the second and third very soon.

What are you claiming as the fourth? DHS? I am confused with the very soon part. Do you think DAK, when things are finally finished in 2018, will be the 2nd most popular park for a while - only to be knocked off the second spot by The Hollywood park sometime in 2022? Unless the defaced Norway can save Epcot!

I'm saying AK is 4th park because it opened last. I think AK attendance could grow well in the next few years as things are added and opened. DHS is only going to get worse before it gets better. Epcot only has frozen for now. I don't think the new soarin film will drive attendance.

Yep, I think that's exactly what he's saying. AK could easily be more popular, for a lot of people, than Epcot, once Pandora and Rivers of Light, etc, open. You can't even imagine what the crowds will be like at DHS once Star Wars Land opens, unless you have been to the HP openings at Universal. It's going to be epic. It will draw people that normally wouldn't go to Disney just for the Star Wars stuff. First gate = MK, second gate = Epcot, third gate = DHS, fourth gate = AK. This is the order in which they were built, not by popularity.

Yup. I think it will grow just because of the Rivers of Light. World of Color is wildly popular in DCA. People are craving new things. Even the Nightime Safari and new TS restaurant will help. Pandora is still a long way off though.

Backlot lost a lot when they closed so much of it for the LMA area. We still enjoyed seeing the props and the AFI exhibits at the end were often very cool. Disney simply chose to neglect updating the attraction on top of cutting out so much of what you saw.

Same with the Jack Sparrow building. There was a time when that actually rotated out movies and there were different sets and things to do. Along the way they just thought Pirates is popular so we don't need to swap anything for it.

As for the fact that attractions were FP crazed things if we've learned anything from FP+ it's that they can create a line for anything. Adding it to things that never had it before and then ensuring people can't get other things pushes people to attractions. GMR and Figment are perfect examples of things that were often walk-on and are now seeing 30 min wait times.

That said you can call it anything you want but if the plans for TS Land stay true and SW Land is built right it will still be a vast improvement over what we have today.

For the record
  • I'm not complaining. I created a discussion topic, taking an angle that had not yet been fully discussed on the board
  • I personally happen to think One Man's Dream has a place at Disney World more than any other single attraction. Whether it's super 'popular' or not, it is the type of attraction that sets Disney apart from the Six Flags genre.
  • No, I'm not the person that complained about New Fantasyland.
  • I feel that if you had taken the time to read AND understand the thread, you would have realized this is not a negative thread at all, rather one that promotes thoughts on how it all is going to come together.
  • A poster a few comments back hit the nail on the head regarding one of the main discussion topics I was trying to draw out. That is, How does the future HS, with FP+, disperse it's crowds with so many 'A' and 'B' level attractions, but so few 'C' &'D' level ones.

This is why they need more than 14 acres and two rides. The attendance could seriously spike. I have been there a lot of times during SWW, it gets nutty. If you combine the SWW with the new Land...messy fun.

The announcement was targeted mostly to Disneyland locals, which make a huge chunk of D23's attendants . It was pretty vague, true, but still, technically speaking, it is a big expansion over there.

That is key now isn't it. They need more attractions to absorb FP demand, but they still need the auxiliary stuff too like MK. Like that list I made earlier, DHS would have been better with Animation Academy, one mans dream, Indy, muppets, and add the three headliners.

Bingo. This is exactly one of the main points my original post was hoping to draw out. There are quality attractions being sacrificed when the space appears to be available to do what they want to do without having to permanantly shutter some of the things they have.

Disneyland is truly an EXPANSION. They are just taking out a petting zoo and some back stage buildings. I spent 5 days at DL and never even ventured in to that territory.

Fellow Disers I made a mistake moving this thread. I'm working with webmaster to have it restored to first page of TP&S Board. I apologise for a stupid mistake on my part. Sorry Danny PS WebMaster may take until tomorrow , left Boards before I gave full answer to question. Danny
