We are going to DW 10/21-10/26 and taking my 78 yr old mother-in-law (first trip for her). There will be some rides she cannot ride due to a previous broken (but completely healed) neck, but the rest of our family want to ride them. She is really adamant that we don't leave her alone while we are in a queue and ride, even though we have suggested she could wait inside the gift shops and look around, or people watch until we exit. Her fear for being left alone is that she is worried if something bad happens to us, no one will tell her. We've tried to explain that the chances of this are small, but she is very nervous about it. So my question is, are there exits right before the ride where she could walk through the queue with us, and exit right before the ride, so she only has to wait the duration of our ride? We are taking four adult children with us who will probably go off on their own together because my husband and I will take it slower with her. And I know that we could probably do single rider and one of us stay with her at all times, but of course the fun for us is experiencing it all together. I know that is selfish on my part. But this will be the last time for quite some time that we will be at DW, and we are paying a lot of money for this trip. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There is one at Splash, Space and Big Thunder that I know of where she can exit just before the loading bay. Not sure about any other rides though

Any ride that would be questionable for anyone has some type of last minute "chicken exit". Even if there is no clear exit, she can ask a CM who will direct her! She will not be forced to get on the ride if she doesn't want to. For example, at the Jungle Cruise where I work, we don't have an exit at the loading area, but we will lead guests down the dock (typically a CM only area) to the exit if necessary.

Nearly all the attractions have a "chicken exit" that allows a person to go through the queue but not actually ride. Ask the CM stationed at the beginning of the line about the process for that particular attraction.

I too have a broken neck that will never heal. For the five years after the accident, I didn't ride anything my husband thought I shouldn't but I went through all the queues with him. Not a problem. Once you get to the seater person, the person in front of your party just says "X to ride and one to exit" and your mother will be shown or taken the way out. (BTW - the neck is fine now and I ride everything again with my doctor's blessing).

I will say that the exit for Twilight Zone is THE best. I never felt like I was exiting the attraction at all. Tell your mother-in-law to pay attention to everything on her way out. Things are still creepy crawly in a mind sense and the details in her elevator (it does not plunge) are great. And she's going to love the waiting area as she can sit and relax and watch as the plunging elevator riders get out after. I was cracking up when I had witnessed an elevator of football sized guys come out saying, "never again, never again" and then another elevator "landed" and a group of teenage girls came running out laughing and saying, "we're doing that again and again!" as they passed the football looking guys. I wish had a camera with me to take a photo of those guys' faces. Totally priceless.

Oh - one thing about the exits - make sure you know where to meet after (or your mother-in-law has a phone). Twilight Zone was easy and there are others where it's in the gift shop after. But, before you enter the queue, ask the Cast Member where to meet.

So glad you have healed enough to ride the rides and enjoy yourself!! And thank you so much for giving me this information as it will really help!
