There are a couple of threads that talk about having an existing reservation and a waitlist and how that all works, but they are from 2008 and 2009 - I'd like to see some comments based on more 'recent' experience, please. :-)

I have a 2 bedroom Boardwalk View reservation for October already in place (it's one of 4 separate October reservations.) I also have a waitlist for a 2 bedroom Boardwalk View Handicap-Accessible room, with instructions to cancel the original one should the waitlist become available and 'swap' the original reservation for the waitlisted one.

Do I need to be concerned, particularly in the midst of Food & Wine, that I will somehow lose *both* reservations -- i.e., will they cancel the one and then attempt to make the other thus opening myself up to someone claiming the original room by matter of timing, or does MS have the ability to just 'swap' the two and then they'd release the original room to the system?

Contrary to popular belief, MS does not have the ability to hold inventory. Some managers, senior, and team line do have that ability.

In the past, requests for HC rooms were handled by an accessibility group. I do not know if they are still in the picture but I would call MS and talk to a manager to find out.

People matching the waitlist can hold inventory. Earlier this year my BCV waitlist came through. MS left me a voicemail on a Friday afternoon with questions about my waitlist asking for my call back. I didn't get around to calling back until Saturday afternoon. Turns out they called because I had a reservation at VGF during the same time but the WL did not indicate canceling an existing reservation. They were still holding the BCV room. They didn't cancel the VGF reservation, but couldn't book the BCV because it would have been the same lead name.

It would be a very odd occurrence for you to lose a room when a waitlist matched but I'd imagine anything is possible. However the waitlist sets aside the matched room for a CM to reserve it for you so it shouldn't be a worry.

I'd like to do a similar thing for a reservation I have in May since our person who required the HA will not be making the trip however mine is made in 2 UY's so it would be 2 different waitlist matches and I don't want to risk only getting one and having to move. :( Otherwise I'd do exactly what you are doing and wouldn't worry about it.
