exhausted after 4 night cruise

This time we decided to try late dining (we were up that late anyway) and try to make sure we take a daily rest in the stateroom. I am also planning next to nothing during the day.

Our hands down favorite "activity" on our cruises has become those afternoon downtimes -- naps, feet up watching a movie, sitting on the verandah reading, etc. So peaceful and refreshing.

We just did a B2B on the Dream at the beginning of April and yes, it is very tiring. We also were up to midnight most evenings and then up early the next morning for excursions, etc. What we ended up doing was seeing all the shows we wanted to see, character greatings, getting all the dress-up pictures taken, etc on the 4-night. Then on the following 3-night, we did our excursions during the day and took it easy at night. We actually only made it to the dining room on the first night of the 3-night cruise and just had room service or snacks the other two nights because we were burnt out, LOL.

It was very nice having that extra 3 nights on the ship to do some of the other activitines like riding the Aquaduck and playing Goofy Golf. If we had to leave the ship after the 4-night, I would have felt exactly the same way as you.

I am looking forward to our 7-night MR cruise next year because I expect that to be at a more relaxed pace (with 3 sea days).

We were also on the same 4 night Dream cruise and were exhausted as well. I will definitely say I overplanned. It was not my first cruise but was my first Disney cruise. Half of what I had planned, we didn't end up doing because we were just too tired. I, too, think that a longer cruise would allow for more time to "do" everything. I just don't think I could stand being on the ship for longer than 4 nights. I felt the motion of the ship WAY too much. It did not make me sick, but was very unpleasant. The constant rocking back and forth really got on our nerves. It was worse night 1 and night 4, and by debarkation morning I could not get off that ship fast enough. I, too, believe that I liked it more than I thought now that a few days have passed, but I don't think we'll be going again any time soon. It was a great vacation, and we didn't experience any of the negatives that others had reported. We loved pretty much every aspect of it except for the rocking. I really think that the rocking contributed to our exhuastion as well. We never got a really good night's sleep.

How late did you stay up? and how did that differ from your normal daily routine?

We've never been exhausted after a cruise - but we never felt like we had to stay up and fit in all of the night-time activities either.

We had dinner at 5:45 and then 8:30 show; somehow we still didn't get to bed before 11 or 12. My 5YO is usually in bed by 8:30 and DD9 by 9:00. I am also usually in bed by 10:30. so our routine was not very routine!;)

I made the same comment to my husband. I was very concerned about motion and was taking bonine and dramamine. Once we left port and really got going I did not feel well during dinner. I found the motion better on night 2 and 3, but then started again by night four. I think the ship created some good waves on night 1 and 4. I can't imagine when it is really rocky. I can't even tolerate the 7 hour ferry run from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia.

We made the mistake of having a 10 night be our first cruise, we could never enjoy a 4 night cruise...it has to be 7 nights or more...

It gave us just enough time to take some naps on deck four (Magic/Wonder)...take in the sunsets...and enjoy playing shuffle board/ping pong with the kids....if we lived less than an hour from a port..we'd love a 4 night cruise, but we live a flight away so for us it has to be longer than 7 nights for the effort that needs to go into it! :)

You'll really enjoy going on the longer one with all the knowledge you now have! :)

iambrink and anotherprincess,

I am sorry to hear that you guys were experiencing the sea sickness. We were with you guys too that week and DH was hit hard the first night at the late dinner. We were told it was probably because the ship was going faster than early evening. Someone at our table had an extra pair of SeaBands and they helped DH alot. He took the Bonine during the day and wore the SeaBands at night. I did feel the motion too, but it didn't make me sick. I finally woke up yesterday back to normal without the dizziness. I do hope you both are feeling better.

We too were exhausted but felt it was because of being unprepared as first time cruisers. Time just flew by so fast. With all that said, DH still wanted to do it again next year. Hopefully we will be more prepared and have a better game plan.

We noticed that on our first couple of cruises -- very rocky on the sail out. CM told us it is because we are crossing the Gulf stream. After that I always take a Bonine the first day (love those -- no drowsiness). But now we're used to it. We sailed through Hurricane Hillary on our way from LA to Panama Canal in 2005 on the Magic. People were sleeping in the hallways midship they were so sick! Me.....I slept through it. :lmao: When I saw my husband's film footage I was shocked -- waves splashing up to our 6th floor verandah :scared1:

Always depend on Bonine and green apples for sea sickness. Works for me every time.

No matter how tired we are, we can never seem to hit the bed before Midnight. There is always an adult show we want to see or a movie showing, or a walk on the deck to view the stars is a must, or just hanging out for a drink. I'd rather lose sleep than lose time enjoying the sea and the cruise activities. As Warren Zevon said: "I'll sleep when I'm dead" ;)
