I wish I was one of those people that loved to do it. I am looking at my exercise bike and wanting to light it on fire:lmao:

ughhh...

I like exercising in the summer when I can be outside, but I really don't like it when I have to do it during the winter, inside, using exercise dvds...that's really boring. But I do it just about everyday...30-40 minutes, which probably isn't that much, but it helps. I tried joining a gym during the winter, but then found myself not going because I didn't even want to get out in the cold to drive there, in the evening. What a waste of money that was. So now I just do the dvd thing during the cold months.

Getting motivated is probably the hardest part!! I started walking in Sept., and worked my way up to running. I can actually run 3 miles now, and I NEVER EVER thought that was something I would be able to do. Getting motivated to go is truly the hardest part. Give yourself an incentive. Set a goal. That always helps too.

I was like you several years ago, but once I started doing it I began to like it because I liked how I felt. You wouldn't know it to look at me now, but I have vowed to get back into it once my broken foot heals. My suggestion would be to start off a little at a time. When I started working out, before I broke my foot, I would go to the gym and just work until I got tired and then I'd leave. I looked stupid, but I didn't care; I was there to workout. After a while I built myself up and was going pretty good. Just a little at a time.

Have you ever considered getting a Wii, and getting WiiFit? I know it doesn't take the place of going to a gym, but it really can help get you motivated to start exercising, and once you get good at the Wiifit, it's a lot easier to start adding other "real" exercises to your routine as well.

For example, I try to walk (really fast) about 4 miles a day. I also like to work out with weights in my house. For me, exercising is not that hard to get into.
My wife and kids, on the other hand, aren't exercise buffs. After getting the Wiifit, all of them love to spend time (up to an hour each) having fun and getting in a lot of exercise on the Wii. It really does make stretching, strength exercises, balance, endurance, etc... a whole lot of fun. It takes away the whole "I don't feel like doing this today", and replaces it with "I can't wait to get on my WiiFit today."

You really might want to check into it, it might be just what you're looking for to help get you motivated to get more fit.

That's my goal.

Thanks for the motivation reminder. It's just what I needed to keep myself from not working out today. No excuses.

POOH, I have a suggestion for you....start reallly slow and for very short spurts! :thumbsup2

I think burn out is a huge factor in many people not sticking with their exercise programs. So I would recommend 5 minutes a day for 3-5 days at a slow pace...I am so sure if you keep up that plan...you will have the energy and the want to go faster and longer. ::yes:: Remember slowly increasing your w/o. I know you can do it. AND keep a journal. Write down your speed and your time and you will want to beat that every few days.

***Take all your measurements before you start any work out program...several months later re-measure yourself....YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. But as past trainers have told me....you did not put that weight on overnight so it is not going to come off overnight.

I have been working out since having DS2 in 1985!!! ::yes:: I had put on a ton of weight with the pregnancy BUT we were living out of state away from family. We wanted to bring DS2 home to Baptize him and having had put on in excess of 60 lbs with DS1 everyone asked...."How much weight did you put on?"....I lied (not thinking of our pending trip) :guilty: and said not much...when indeed I had put on MORE = 65 lbs. Anyway, DS2 was born in Dec and we would be returning home in April for a huge Baptism. I HAD MY WORK CUT OUT FOR ME. I did it. Weight Watchers combined with aerobic exercise was the trick!!!! I have never stopped...23 years later I work out 5-7 days a week. Once you get to your goal AND YOU WILL it is so empowering. BUT it is so true about working out....you can diet all you want but it is the working out that really drops the inches!!! :thumbsup2

Oh and check out the WISH Forum here on the DIS. Everyone over there has so much FAB advice. :goodvibes Good Luck!!!

I love to workout, but I despise doing it on my own, on a bike or treadmill or any of thos gawdawful pieces of machinery. I feel like a hamster in a wheel!

I love group exercise classes. It's always something different, I'm always pushed WAY beyond what I would normally do on my own and, as a result, have had fantastic results. Also, the classes are scheduled, so therefore my exercise is scheduled, you know?

A lot of people like groupX because of the social aspect. I'm not all that outgoing IRL, so I haven't made a lot of friends, but I can see the appeal of that too.

As others have said, once you find something you enjoy, you can really become addicted to exercise.

Wow..congrats on being able to run 3 miles! That is awesome.:thumbsup2

I agree.. its so much harder in the winter. That is where I am. Over the summer I am constantly active. Lost 30lbs over the summer. And now I at a stand still. I get bored very easily. The gym is just way too exspensive. And never mind how uncoordinated I am. Tried a Tae bo dvd and wanted to hunt Billy Blanks down and slap him:lmao:

I do have a Wii... love it! Actually thinking of getting a Wii Fit for Xmas for the kids (me,lol) I have heard great things. I was thinking of finding one sooner than later actually, I went through hell and back last year to find a Wii right before Xmas.

the worst part of it all.... is watching my DH eat everything and anything and not exercise and not gain a pound... now that is more aggravating than anything:rotfl2:

thank you for all the tips... a part of me just wants to jump into it all, but I think i will take it slower. A little is better than none.

I am a big fan or exercise classes. It creates a sense of accountability. Plus all the money that I put out to join makes me feel too guilty to not go. Some places will even let you pay per class so thats a good option for keeping your workouts fresh. Everybody has those days when working out is like pulling teeth. Its OK to skip now and then:goodvibes

I still hate it...but once you get into a routine then it's much easier to tolerate.

Of course hot women in spandex at the gym helped. :teeth:

I'm in the minority. I had a personal trainer for 2 years, lost 70lbs, trained to walk the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon and still hate exercising:lmao:

I left my trainer in Febuary, I was burned out. I have struggled to get back into a routine. I gained weight training for the 1/2:headache: so I am trying to get it back off. I did buy the Wii Fit and I have asked for Jillian Michaels game for Christmas.

The only exercise I "like" is walking-outdoors. Time change kills me because I can't walk in the evenings, I have to do the treadmill. So far I have managed to get on it once this month. I do take a 15 minute walk at break everyday and go up the stairs at work instead of taking the elevator.
