Just a quick question for everyone...

I do weight training every day, and only do a cardio-esque type work out periodically. Is this a bad thing? My dad actually told me that was the way "in the old days" that men used to PUT ON weight. I've never heard this before... I don't want to bulk up, but I definetly want to tone up. (I don't think women really bulk up like men anyway, unless you REALLLLY work at it...)

Have any of you heard this?

:scared1:Robin :scared:

are you working the same muscle groups everyday? that is probably too much. recovery and rest is a vital part of strength training.

if you are strength training everday - but rotating muscle groups so you are only working each group 2-3 times a week -- that's more ok from my understanding

i also know that light weight with more reps = toning
heavier weight with fewer reps = muscle building (bulking up)

are you trying to lose weight too? are you another user name i would recognize? ;) cardio is essential for losing weight -- at least 30 mins at least 4 times a week

strength training with help boost your metabolism which translates into more calories burned at a rest per day

is that helpful or too confusing

LOL It's wonderfully confusing! :p

(I'm another screenname *Robin*, but I don't think we've talked before...Hello, nice to meet you!! hehehe...Unless YOU"RE another screen name also!)... I just want to do this on my own, and I have lots of friends and family on the dis that I don't need being "helpful"

Anyway, I do alternate, but I work my arms almost everyday, light weights, 5lbs, and alternate on abs, legs etc. I actually think I did overdo it on my arms yesterday though, my shoulder if very sore. DRAT!!

I'm horribly asthmatic in the winter and find cardio really, really frustrating. I actually love the feeling of weight training ( I love it when your skin starts feeling "tight"!) but let it go for a long long time... (Have a baby, let things go, all of a sudden it's 8 years later!) ACK!

My whole idea of getting back to weights first and building muscle is exactly what you stated...more muscle, higher metabolism, more energy, more calories burned! (If only it were that quick!)

So thank you!! If you have any great tips, I'd love to hear them.
:)Have a great day!
Robin
