Excursions in Cozumel - What's worth the cost?

My DW and I are casting off for a five-night cruise on the Wonder in November, and will be stopping through Cozumel. We've cruised there before, but never on Disney. On my previous runs through Cozumel, we did the snuba excursion in 2008, and that was pretty good, but left a little to be desired because there just isn't must to see underwater where you do that excursion.

Right now, we're really eyeing up the cave exploration one, but at $135/person, I'm in need of a second opinion before committing nearly $300 for what ends up being about 40 or so minutes of a cave tour.

Has anyone else ever done the cave excursion? Or is there something else we should strongly consider?

Also, I am not good with heights, so zip-lining canopy tours of any sort are not happening.

Thanks, and look forward to hearing others' experiences!

First time in Cozumel we done the Dolphin swim...this time we decided to do something different and went for the Cozumel Bar Hop...it was so good!
Coleen the tour guide is lovely she tells you all about the place...then you go to about four different bars ...each one different...its a part of Cozumel you dont usually get to see ...well worth it...and you have a laugh with all the other people on the bus.

If you are looking for something inexpensive, but quite interesting to do in Cozumel, check out the chocolate tour at http://chocolateskaokao.com/. At only $10 per person, it can't be beat. It is highly rated on TripAdvisor and we really enjoyed it when we were in Cozumel this past August. It is not a DCL excursion because they can only handle 12 people at a time. It is located in the residential area of Cozumel, but the taxi driver didn't have a problem finding it. The Chocolate Factory appears on the official taxi board as you leave the port area and the taxi for 5 of us from the port to the factory only cost $15 each way. You will need to book it online before your cruise arrives in Cozumel. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

DD and I are on the same cruise in Jan. Can't wait to see what folks suggest!

I haven't been there yet, but one that I have seen while researching for next year is the chocolate factory tour. Google kaokao cozumel. I like the idea that it's a cultural thing and it seems reasonably priced.

Just did the 12 meter America's Cup racing. Now we consider it the best we have ever done. Great fun and you can choose active or passive roles on board.

My husband & I loved the Mexican Cuisine Workshop & Tasting. It includes some beach or water park time as well.

We did the Mayan ruins and island overview tour last year and it was pretty enjoyable. We went to a Mayan pyramid and ruins, a beach, and a tequila factory. It was nice overview of the island. If you are interested in history and like sight seeing new places this is something that should be looked into.

Wow, lots of great feedback! I'm especially curious about the chocolate factory.

On my first trip through Cozumel in 2004, I pretty much went on a mission to see how much one could drink in a day. So Carlos and Charlies was where I spent more time than I care to admit that day.

On the second go-round in 2008, my now wife and I did snuba. That was pretty cool, although I have no recollection how much it cost. However, we spent nearly two hours just getting there and doing the education portion before we spent about 30 minutes in the water. It would have been totally worth the cost/effort if there was anything to see underwater in that particular area, but nevertheless, it was an interesting experience.

So on this trip, we're definitely looking to maximize our value, and find something that DW's parents might be interested in since they will be joining us on this trip.

Can't wait to read more of your experiences! :goodvibes

last month we did Cozumel Beach Break at Playa Mia Beach and i cannot tell you how much we enjoyed it. It was a full day excursion with a nice beach, slides, trampolines, etc in the ocean, a full lunch menu with an open bar and two terrific pools, one with a slide longer than Pelican Plunge...price was $75 per adult and imo worth every cent...my wife commented on what a nice day and what a good deal it was...

two years ago we did Fury Catamaran Sail Snorkel and Beach Party which was also nice but its only a half day excursion....

i should add i'm not one for heights and neither is my wife but we did zip lining during our Jamiaca stop and it was a blast...

We did nachi cocum with another family with kids this April. Would not spend either our time or money there again. It was raved about on the boards so we gave it a shot. If you are adult and drink quite a bit, it might be worth it. Lots of workers there and all looking for tips for everything. I got spoiled with castaway cay and blue lagoon in Nassau I guess.

We are doing this in two weeks. Can't wait. Hoping they let me wear our GoPro so I can video portions as well.

its funny you say this....earlier in the thread i recommended Playa Mia...when we got there we had this one guy who said he would take care of us, set us up with chairs, etc (which he did)....when it was time to leave we looked for him to tip him yet he was nowhere to be found...incredibly strange for Mexico...

overall at Playa Mia i did not see workers whining for tips as i have in other ports and port excursion...

I booked this one just because you said you loved it!! I was nervous because of the whole water/ice issue. I would imagine you would have said you got sick from the water. I can't wait, I love different cooking experiences!! Question though, do I have to spend my WHOLE time here? Can I leave sooner if I want to?

I really fancy the Mayan ruins tour but the chocolate factory sounds great too. Soooo many choices I don't know how we will ever decide

I love hearing everyone else's reviews

I wonder how much it costs for just 1 or 2 people to get to the Choco factory and back? Can you pay with US dollars or Pesos? (Is it cheaper to pay with one or the other)?

How do cab tips work there? Do you tip the cabbies?

We did this tour on our RCI cruise in August. Everyone really enjoyed this. It was a great way to see some ruins without travelling to the mainland. Lunch on the beach was excellent. Plus lime for some shopping afterwards. Also, our guide was excellent.
