excursions for someone in wheelchair

Hi all pirate:
Whats the best excursions for someone in wheelchair on the Eastern cruise, or would i have to hire a taxi. Any suggestions or experiences would be most helpful.

If you are going on a DCL cruise there really aren't any accessible excursions although the shore ex manager onboard can help with arrangements once you're on the ship. St. Maarten is a little more difficult but you may want to take a look at the joyceprince website. Someone on this board said they were able to make arrangements for an excursion for their two daughters in w/c's and that the company was great. Also in St. Thomas the Havensight Mall area, directly as you debark, is mostly accessible and easy to get around. For an excursion, Coral World is accessible. There used to be a tour with a visit to Coral World that was a part of DCL's excursions but I believe it has been discontinued. There were lift vans provided which may still be available privately. You may also wish to contact the folks at ShoreTrips to see if they can provide an accessible excursion. Alot will depend on if you are in a manual vs. power chair and if you are able to transfer or walk a few steps. ---Kathy
