And Vatican things could be affected by it being a Jubilee Year - meaning a whole lot more people than usual.

I didn't realize it was a Jubilee year. We were in Rome during a Jubilee year once. The place was packed (the whole city, not to mention how hard it was to get into the various cathedrals and churches).

Yeah. I had always understood that they were at fixed intervals, but apparently the pope can declare one whenever he chooses. And he's chosen to this year.

Actually...it began late last year (12/8/15) and will end in 3 months (11/20). I didn't really get the significance of going through the door until my (very) devout friend explained it. The crowds were pretty impressive for sure.
