Thought this was very interesting:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/diet.fitness/10/14/lowcarb.mystery.ap/index.html :hyper: The gist of the article is that there is evidence that people on low-carbohydrate diets can actually eat more than folks on standard lowfat plans and still lose weight

I'm still having trouble eating enough - yet avoiding carbs. Even cheese has carbs and I can't eat beef and chicken all day. I just finished dinner and find I've only consumed about 1000 calories today...Not at all hungry

b'fast: eggs, butter, bacon, tomato slice
lunch: celery,cream cheese, smoked salmon
dinner: turkey, tomato, mayo
slice of low-carb cheesecake
64 oz (plus some!) water
one can diet coke
1/2 hr walking

I usually have salad but since we're leaving for WDW tomorrow the fridge is nearly empty of perishables.

I've been on Atkins for about three weeks and have lost only 7 lbs .:(

PS I'm still on induction

Everyone loses at different rates. In my case for example I had a great 1st week with losing 13 pounds. Others that started around the same time I did lost less their first week than I did their first weeks but later on mine slowed down but they ended up passing me for a while. Now I have picked up speed once again and have passed some of them again. Don't get discouraged by what everyone else does. Even if you lose 7 pounds a month in 10 months that would be 70 pounds!!

Wow! 7 lbs. down! Way to go!! You should be proud of every pound of that! :)

I don't know a whole lot about Atkins, but I have heard other people say that by drinking the Diet Coke, Pepsi, etc. that they couldn't lose as fast. Maybe if you try what they did and switch to Diet Rite brand, you'll lose more? It may be worth a shot. It comes in a few different flavors and you can buy it at most grocery stores, including Wal-Mart.

Congratulations on your loss so far and I wish you continued success! ::yes::

7 pounds is great! It took a long time to put the weight on and it will take a while to get it off, but you are on the right track. You are doing the right things for your health. :)

If you are looking for suggestions about your menu, I noticed it included cheesecake. I don't know if you eat that every day or not. If so, you might want to consider just having it once or twice a week. I never seem to lose weight when I have cheesecake. Other than that your diet looks great. Keep up the good work and the lbs will come off! :)

Have a fabulous time in WDW. I bet the weather will be beautiful.

Painted Stuff: Atkins is not a "no-carb" diet - it is a "low-carb diet". You need to eat your carbs, or you will not lose the weight! You should be getting 20 carbs per day, in the form of vegetables, salads, cheese, etc. After the first 2 weeks, you can slowly start adding in more carbs, in the form of veggies, cheese, nuts, Atkins products, etc. until you reach that point where you're still losing but eating as many carbs as your body will tolerate. For me, that's between 25-30 a day. Some people can eat up to 50 a day. Each body is different.

The main point is - from looking at your menu - you're not getting enough carbs! Try adding in a big salad every day, or some green beans or broccoli with your dinner. Remember you should be getting 3 cups of veggies per day.

Good luck! You're doing great so far with your 7-pound loss! It will keep coming off - I promise! :D

Oh yeah - and the article is right! I will go out to eat with friends that are on low-fat diets, and while they're eating their little salad with fat-free dressing, I'm pigging out on prime rib, steamed vegetables with lots of butter or cheese sauce, a big salad with real dressing, etc! And, the next morning I will still be down another pound! LOL! They hate when that happens. ;)

Also, something to consider is that you can cause your metabolism to shut down or slow down if you eat too little calories. Your body actually gains weight rather than loosing even though you are eating less. This is why most on your own diets dont' work because people will stave themselves too much by thinking they can't eat much to loose weight. Actually the opposite is true. 1000 calories is way to little. You could find things that would give you the calories, but didn't fill you up.

Thanks for the article.
