I live in the Orlando area and have an annual pass, so my 5 year old son and I go to Disney a LOT! In December we had dinner at Trails End and fell in love with FW! My son has been begging me to take him camping and I'm the type of girl who considers the Holiday Inn "roughing it", so I saw the perfect compromise for us at FW.

I just booked 4 nights 11/20-11/24. We are going to tent camp, and we're getting really excited.

I have been reading the boards a lot recently, but any hints, tips, advise are welcomed! I am a huge planner, so I have starting making my packing list and we have plans for a dry run in the back yard when it gets a little warmer! I know we'll only be 40 minutes from home, but we plan to make a mini-vacation out of the experience.

No tips or advice since we camp in a pop up, I just wanted to say CONGRATS on your trips plans and I hope you have a great time! :cheer2:

Most important items for your dry run are pen and paper. When we did our first campout in a popup we filled two pages with missing items. If you plan on cooking at your site make sure you do the same on the dry run and note everything you run in the house for. Some of the things to think about are cooking, clean-up, resting, storage.... Remember there is allot more to camping then crawling into a sleeping bag in a tent. Oh ya have fun.

My biggest advice is purchase some of the really cheap painters plastic and put that under your regular ground cloth under your tent on the sand at the Fort!! When you break down your tent, just ditch that painters plastic!!!!

First of all, congratulations for going for it! Your son is going to love it at FW.
Second, depending on how easy you want to take it, try some convenience foods to start off. Since you'll be in a tent, you will have to cook over charcoal or a gas stove. Keep it simple this time. The usual burgers and dogs always work. Add some fruit, mac and cheese, and cookies and you have an instant meal. Keep in mind it's not easy to boil water over charcoal, so if you do make something that requires that, then use a hot plate or propane stove. I have a 2 burner hot plate that I use quite often, maybe not as romantic as the gas stove, but you don't have to buy propane either. Like I said, keep it simple, then add as you go along. HAVE FUN!
