I want to buy a TS. we are used to using my MIL's rci/bluegreen, so we are exploring that option besides DVC. She will be able to help us with everything.....we travel to the Dells every year, but we also like to go to Disney every two years or so. I am having a hard time trying to decide which route to go......But i thought i read that RCI can trade into DVC resorts? what do you need with a RCI contract to trade into a DVC property? ( float week, fixed week,??)
We do not care what resort, ( as long as on property) or time of year.
I have been searching the TUG boards for about an hour, and i only found one thread......that leaves me to think mabye it does not happen often? ( the one i found was a exchange into AKL)

We own both DVC and a RCI Resort. We have points with RCI and we just traded into Disney with our other timeshare. Hope that helps a little.

Tina: if you become a TUG member (rather than just a guest), you'll be able to see the Sightings board over there. There is a lot of information there, but it is only available to those who have paid the very modest fee. Another source is timeshareforums.com.

The short version---at this time, you need an absolute top-tier trader, or you need a healthy number of RCI Points. That you are flexible about resort and time of year is good. However, you have to know that the only way to stay onsite for sure is to buy or rent there---exchanging in will never be a sure thing.

I was going to say the same thing! Lots of discussion on the Sightings board. Access to this board and other great features require TUG membership ($15 first year -- free renewals available for Resort Reviews, new member referrals, etc.).

Thanks, i will look into becoming a member
I am starting the overload of information process again ........( took me 3 months to study DVC :guilty:) so now i will start over studying rci & bluegreen, TUg seems to be the best for those.
Do you know what a "healthy" number of points would be? like i mentioned above, we use MIL's TS, and she has been using her TS since 1978, so she will be our serect weapon when it comes to getting the full benefit from ours (She is a master trader popcorn::)

Bluegreen can be a good vehicle for this mindset. You should be able to buy no qualified BG points package for as low as 10-15¢ a point currently depending on certain variables plus closing. You can make them qualified if you know how and pay some extra fees OR make two purchases, the first non qualified and the second qualified. It really only makes sense to pay for qualified points if you'll use the benefits. One thing you may want to look at is buying a separate package and combining with your MIL contract increasing the total points under one contract. This approach would save $310 a year, give you more options both with BG and with RCI weeks. Obviously many variables but from a use and dollar standpoint if you can get to at least Silver or possibly Gold, the qualified points would have definite value for many people.
