I have read many of the discussions on the board and they are very helpful. I am not a DVC owner, I own a timeshare in Las Vegas. I am wanting to exchange my LV timeshare for time at a DVC through II. Our travel time is in April 2004 and what I want to know is which DVC resort am I most likely to get in an exchange? How about least likely? In making my request, I want to help my changes of getting a Disney resort... after reading I know it is a long shot, but I want to try. It would be our first trip and we'd be celebrating my daughter's 13th birthday. Also, are there other timeshares around Disney that could be other options?
Thanks for the help!

Hello
From what I hear, It is very difficult to get onto Disney property. That said, I would encourage you to try anyway. You never know..... Their are many other timeshares in the Orlando area. I have toured the Marriott properties and orange lake country club and both of those are very nice. Perhaps Doc knows of some others in the vicinity?

My guess is your chances are zero. I'm assuming you are trying to travel on spring break and DVC by rule does not deposit premier time which is 4-17 April for that year. Your chances for the week before and the 2 weeks after are slim for OKW and basically non existent for the rest of the resorts. Even if you were to find something, expect it to be within 6-8 weeks of your travel.

I agree that your chances of exchanging into a WDW DVC resort are virtually zero.

You might have better luck trying to arrange a direct exchange with a DVC member. I've seen such posts on the Rent/Trade Forum here on the DIS. You're best chance at a direct exchange though, is probably on the TUG.

Good luck!

If your trying to determine which DVC resort on Disney property would you have the best chance of trading into, although the chances are slim, that resort would be Old Key West. BCVs, BWVs, and WLVs all fill up more quickly and have less availability than OKW.

Good Luck. Another option might be for you to trade to a timeshare close to Disney.

When we were at DVC sales they claimed the 95% of DVC members do not trade out. They have restructured the exchange program with interval so you may have a very sill chance but I would not plan on it. The prior poster had a good idea post your plans on the rent board. Good Luck

In 2001 it was 1.9% of members iwth II and another small amount with BVTC, this was the highest I've seen. They won't publish the 2002 numbers until around early June.

Thanks for all the information. It has been very helpful... now it just a matter of figuring out what we are going to do. We've written off the exchange thing with II, now it is on to Plan B.

There are terrific II-affiliated timeshare resorts near Walt Disney World. I've stayed at Marriott's Grande Vista and Marriott's Cypress Harbour, and I've toured Horizons by Marriott, Orlando. These are all excellent resorts, and they're much more readily available for exchange through II than the DVC resorts.

Plus, if I'm reading Dean's numbers correctly, there are probably over a thousand deposits of DVC weeks into II each year. It appears that most of these deposits are during the lower seasons, typically at OKW or Hilton Head. That still means that over a thousand lucky II members are able to exchange into a DVC resorts each year (and pay a supplemental $95 fee to the DVC resort). It wouldn't hurt to include DVC resorts in an ongoing search, but it's likely that your request would clear for a non-DVC resort before any DVC matches became available. (And if you own at Marriott, you'll pay a premium for including a non-Marriott in your search, even if you clear into a Marriott.)

1141 exchanges confirmed during the year ending December 31, 2001 and another 35 for BVTC. Only some 53.6% of properly submitted exchange requests were filled and there were 241 weeks of which II was obligated at the end of the year. I'm assuming these were deposits first and not just pending requests but I'm not certain. The exchange percentage was the lowest I've seen it but the total number of successfull exchanges and percent of owners exchanged was the highest. I assume that means more people tested the waters but were less successful than previously.

Personally I expect the 2002 numbers to show even a few more exchanges (maybe 2.1%) but still about 50% success rate. It remains to be seen what the new system will bring out but my guess is it won't make that much difference though I suspect the total numbers will continue to slowly climb as the longer term members look for some variety.
